Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich Release Date Texts Lied (Updated)

Published

on

It appears that Verizon has begun telling owners of the Motorola Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX that Ice Cream Sandwich release date texts, which were sent out last week, were spam and were not the real deal.

Update: Verizon Says these messages are not spam.

“The following message is not spam:

SMS

Free Verizon Message: Your phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0. At that time we will remove your Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app because it is not supported on Android 4.0. Please download a new instant messaging app to use IM on your phone. Thank you for using Mobile IM!”

This comes direct from a Verizon Wireless spokesperson, not a back and forth Twitter account.

We have received several tips this morning indicating that Verizon has confirmed that the text messages sent to Droid RAZR MAXX and Droid RAZR owners last week were not indicative of the carrier’s real Ice Cream Sandwich roll out plans.

Apparently, the messages were spam and should be flagged as such.

One reader, Steve O, says that Verizon’s message also indicates that the Ice Cream Sandwich roll out may not be coming as soon as some owners think.

He states:

Verizon just announced that those individuals who got messages stating that the update was coming soon got messages that were spam and should report them as spam.  There is no pending release in the next few days as indicated by the messages.

It also doesn’t help that Verizon’s support account on Twitter is spewing out messages that say this:

My sincere apologies if anyone promised ICS for your Maxx. VZW has never stated definitive release date for that upgrade ^DGM

And this:

I wasn’t aware that the manufacturer had stated a release date, either. June or otherwise. ^DGM

Again, this is a support account person who may not have inside knowledge but it’s still not reassuring at all for owners who want to see Ice Cream Sandwich roll out in the near future.

Motorola has promised the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich release date for Q2 which means it needs to roll out in June in order to meet that promise.

We haven’t heard anything from Verizon yet that points to anything otherwise so owners should assume that both updates will be rolling out in June, as planned.

However, it’s days like today when it’s not fun being an Android device owner waiting for a major Android software update.

Anyone else hear the same thing from Verizon?

We’ve reached out to Verizon and we’ll let you know what we hear back.

It just may be time to root this phone and get it over with. Kill 2 birds with one stone, get ICS and get rid of all Bloatware from Verizon.

Its funny cause I really don’t care if the update comes now. Once my gs3 comes in the mail my maxx is in the trash. I’m going to finish this contract then I’m switching companies.

I’m SO tired of the total lack of information provided by Verizon. This NOT what i expect from a “leader” in wireless service.

This is just lazy journalism at it’s best. The sources quoted here are about reliable as a weather prediction. Cross check next time my friend….

Reson im switching to cricket cause they dont offered supreme line but do offer unlimited txt 1/3 what i pay for at verzion and dont have be in tuned to there lastest programs cause no one will be up to date and no lies!!! Or fake promise ….. one thing that im most disturbed about the c.e.o is that he wont stand up and admit it too much of what he promise then he can deliver

I’m glad your switching to Cricket so maybe you can save enough money to take those night classes and pass your GED test. Do you know how to spell or use the English language at all? How embarrassing

Maybe you can go together, so you learn the difference between “your” and “you’re”

DROID life says testers just started getting the update today. So it could be the end of June if there’s no problems.
