The Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Jelly Bean updates rolled out to owners well ahead of their end of March deadline, surprising owners with an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The updates, which began rolling out earlier this month, have been rolling out slowly to owners due to Verizon’s methodology.

The Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Jelly Beanu updates should be hitting all users.

The Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Jelly Beanu updates should be hitting all users.

They have also been available for manual install for those that don’t want to wait for the Over-the-Air update to arrive. However, today, it looks like the OTA is arriving for most users.

We’ve heard from several Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners who have received their update today, Droid-Life is hearing the same thing, and so it looks like the Jelly Bean update is rolling out to most users of these devices today. Those who have yet to receive the software or install it manually will want to look in the device Settings, in the About section, and try and pull the update.

From the sound of things, most users should be able to pull the software which will initiate prompt to download and install. After the process is over, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will have replaced Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the device’s operating system.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is a huge upgrade from Android 4.0 in that it offers a new smoother user interface, Google Now, improved core software like the keyboard and the Browser, and a whole lot more.

It’s unclear if this will be the end of the road for Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners or if Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the current version of Android, is waiting in the wings.

Neither Motorola nor Verizon have confirmed Android 4.2 for these devices so it remains to be seen.

I have yet to get my update. Even when I try to manually download, the update isn’t available.

The Xmas leak (98.72.8.XT912) is sitting on my phone, asking to be installed every 12 hours. It was automatically pushed to my phone while I was sleeping. After checking several forums, and seeing some of the problems people were having, I decided to wait for the official, final version to be released before risking messing up my phone.

Now that the final release is out (98.72.16.XT912), how do I get rid of the Xmas version so the new version can get through? Will this be done automatically when it gets pushed to my phone? Or do I have to do something first? (Like, would I have to install the Xmas one anyway, and then install the alternate OTA Blur_Version.98.72.8.XT912.Version.en.US.zip file?)

Just updated my Droid Razr Maxx OTA to Jelly Bean 4.1.2. I tried to use PdaNet+ for my Wifi hotspot and it now says “Fail to activate hotspot: Your carrier has blocked WiFi mode in Jelly Bean (Android 4.1 or above). Please use USB mode or Bluetooth mode instead.” This is lame!

Could it be that PDANet+ isn’t ready for Jellybean yet? Maybe PDANet+ has to upgrade their program.

That’s a possibility, but since I need the hotspot right away I decided to go ahead and root. Working great so far!

My guess is this will be the end of the line for RAZR and RAZR MAXX since it was debatable they would get 4.1. My MAXX is updating as I write this an I am very interested to see the improvements and, if I understand correct, even longer battery life. I currently get between 32 – 38 hours out of a full charge.

Got my update but it blew up my RAZR MAXX. Update failed and phone reset about half way through. Been continuously resetting ever since. Even a hard reset hasn’t fixed the problem.

Verizon said they’ll have to replace it but won’t give me one of them ones they have in-store. Have to wait for them to ship me one.

It’s amusing how “customer service” and “convenience” are two concepts Verizon doesn’t believe in.

Only sadness is that they killed motoprint. That was a handy little app.

Crashed my phone even after factory restore. So they have to send me a whole new phone.

Laura, same here. I’ve been sort of watching comments here (and other sites). We seem to be a very small minority so far.

I got the Christmas update, and this morning the latest update. I see no difference between them. The bugs are still there! :(

All I can say is, it’s about time and wow! I was one of those disappointed ICS update for the Maxx users. Sorry, I meant extremely disappointed. I’ve had my JB update since the morning of 3/12 (checking my phone for the update was a daily ritual every morning right after turning off my alarm).

I have been extremely impressed. It has a really smooth, quick interface. My notification bar colors are slightly faded, minor problem. The Google Now has alot of potential. No more screen freezes. No more lags after downloading an app update. The notification bar gives you more information.

So far as I can tell, it fixed the problems I had with the ICS update. My daily battery life is back to a respectable level, not quiet to the level it was when I first bought the Maxx back in Feb.

I’m a very happy camper now. This update brings a smile to my face everyday I use my phone, which is everyday. This update makes using my phone a pleasure once again instead of a challenge.

I meant to mention that I bought my Razar Maxx back in Feb 2012.

I’m kinda hesitant about downloading the JB SW. A mesaage keeps popping up every tweleve hours saying that an update is availble and because this SW is new I am afraid that some apps may not work well on my phone if I download it. I heard that you cannot group message anymore unless you download an app.The ICS SW is ok with me. I never had any of the issues on my RAZR Maxx that I read about on this sight and or other Droid boards. Always had great battery never freezes never reboot or power cycle on it’s own. I think I will hold off as long as I can with the update

Don’t do it yet, especially if you rely on WiFi. Many users are experiencing WiFi issues after the Ota update. I am one of them. I haven’t seen any workaround or fix info that works yet.
Also battery life is noticeably reduced and a few handy widgets are gone like weather and sticky notes. Any data on those notes is lost.
I applaud you on your restraint, I only wished I did the same.

If you are happy the way it is then don’t. i did it thinking I was turning off alarm n it downloaded this jelly bean os, I tried to turn off my phone n it didn’t let me. Now it froze when I used pda+ as hot spot. It went to Laredo tx for repairs.
