Droid RAZR MAXX Crushes Competition in 4G LTE Battery Life Test

Published

on

Yesterday, Verizon launched the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX which is essentially a Motorola Droid RAZR with a massive 3,300 mAh battery on board. Needless to say, it’s an intriguing phone because of the poor battery life that Verizon’s 4G LTE smartphones get. But just how much better is it? Well, LaptopMag went ahead and answered that question for us today and the answer is clear: The Droid RAZR MAXX destroys the competition in the battery life department.

The smartphone was pitted against a number of other Verizon 4G LTE smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the LG Spectrum, the original Droid RAZR, the Samsung Droid Charge, and the HTC Rezound.

All of them failed to live up to the Droid RAZR MAXX’s precedent which was 8 hours and 25 minutes of continuous web surfing over 4G LTE with the device’s display set to 40 percent brightness.

The phone with the previous best, the Samsung Droid Charge, was bested by a full hour and 43 minutes.

Coming in last place, and don’t act surprised, is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus which was only able to hold a charge of three hours and fourty minutes. Our problems with the Galaxy Nexus’ battery life are well documented.

It’s not just Verizon’s lineup that got shown up by the Droid RAZR MAXX either.

Devices on AT&T and T-Mobile were left cowering in its wake as well.

We currently have our hands on the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX and while we’ve offered up our first impressions and an unboxing, we’re going to be getting our full review of it up in the near future.

Stay tuned.

Who sets their display on 40% brightness anyways? Test FAIL.

Unless I’m outside, my brightness is around 20% with my Galaxy SII.

Assuming all competitors were set to 40, and it represented a similar objective brightness on the all of them, then the test should be considered valid.

Stock ics on galaxy nexus kills battery because it cannot maintain signal, mine went from fully charged to dead in 3:25 in it was just in standby mode. Now that its rooted I easily get 8 hours on the same 2100 extended battery so the razr Max is no longer on my list of phones to get I can now focus on quad core. I have the original razor also.

What did you do after rooting it to fix the battery?  I’m curious because I have both the Verizon 4G LTE version and the GSM version (which I have now switched to).  My GSM version gets shockingly better battery life than my Verizon version (despite the smaller battery since I have the extended battery in my Verizon model), so I’m assuming your tweaks only apply to the 4G LTE model.  But I’d love to hear them and apply them to both of mine.  I’m willing to root for better battery life, I just don’t know what you did after you rooted :)

I don’t care if the battery literally lasts until the end of time, I would never buy a RAZR.

Y U HATIN’! It’s a great phone. Root is available and you can replace the launcher and dialer with quicker and sexier versions. You can remove bloatware. Gorilla glass and a very solid build. Fast processor and GPU. What’s there to hate?

I have had this phone since the 26th of January and the battery life is amazing.  The battery life last all day with continuous use or almost 2 days with very light use.  Love it!!!

Dakua73 I don’t see how that’s possible. With about 3 hours of heavy use on just 3g network I am down to 15% battery just web searching and a couple YouTube videos and my brightness is not very high at all.

Removed, I misunderstood Dakua73’s comment and thought it was about the GN.

This seems like you’re using the RAZR and not the RAZR MAXX
