DROID Turbo Released as Moto Maxx For Other Regions

A few weeks ago Motorola and Verizon announced the all new DROID Turbo smartphone for Verizon Wireless. A powerful flagship device with impressive specs better than almost anything else currently available, and now it’s headed to more users outside of Verizon.

Verizon has an exclusive deal with Motorola on DROID smartphones, but that doesn’t mean others can’t get the same impressive phone. The DROID Turbo has been renamed the Moto Maxx, and will be available from other carriers outside of the US. We saw a few reports AT&T could get the phone, but that’s doubtful at this point.

We came away rather impressed after our initial hands on, and the smartphone has top-tier specs across the board that compete with the iPhone 6, Galaxy S5, LG G3 and many other flagship smartphones. And often times beat the competition with the huge battery and 21 megapixel camera. Read on for more details about its twin, the Moto Maxx.

Today, Motorola took to its blog and revealed the brand new Moto Maxx. A powerful 5.2-inch smartphone with a quad-hd display and some of the best features of any smartphone released in 2014. Just like the DROID Turbo. It’s the same phone, only not exclusive to Verizon Wireless.

The Moto Maxx is essentially the Turbo for Latin America and a few other regions, and may arrive on other carriers in the US and across the pond in the future, for today it’s only available in Brazil, with Mexica and Latin America set to receive the same phone by the end of November.

So what does the Moto Maxx have to offer over the competition? A lot. From a huge Quad-HD display, one of the biggest battery options in a smartphone, and a good 21 megapixel camera. Here’s the full rundown.

Moto Maxx Specs

  • 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display
  • 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 Quad-core processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 32GB storage, 64GB option
  • Android 4.4.4 KitKat (Android 5.0 coming soon)
  • 21 Megapixel Rear and 2.1 front camera setup
  • 4k video recording
  • Front facing speaker
  • 3,900 mAh battery (wireless charging)
  • Turbo Charger Support
  • Water repellent (coating guards against everyday spills and up to 20 minutes in a downpour), scratch resistant

The Moto Maxx has a large screen, and a brand new Turbo Charger included in the box from Motorola. The Turbo Charger offers 8 hours of battery life after just 15 minutes of charge time, which is rather impressive. That’s only if the large 3,900 mAh battery dies before your day is over, which is unlikely. The company is promising 48 hours of battery life, but we’ll need to test one before we can confirm the claims.

Motorola’s Maxx smartphone runs the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and the company has promised a quick update to Android 5.0 Lollipop before the end of the year for most flagship devices, and that should include the new Moto Maxx released today.

Again the new Moto Maxx is available starting today in Brazil, and will be available from other carriers and Motorola in Mexico and Latin America later this month.
