Evernote Adds PDF Search

Published

on

Evernote’s busy indexing premium users’ scanned PDFs to make them searchable from any device. Evernote will now perform some of its OCR magic on PDFs that are scanned in as image files, making them searchable from any device. This feature will only be available for Premium accounts, which cost $5 per month.

Thats great news. The thing I want to see them figure out is PDF thumbnail rendering on the web client and iPhone client. As it stands now if your note is in PDF (which 95% of mine are from either the clipper or my ScanSnap scanner), the thumbnail preview is only visible on the desktop app. Once I find the note, I have to tape on it, then tap on a “paper clip” like it is an attachment…..then the note will appear. So, I cant take advantage of flipping through notes on my iPhone via thumbnail. I’m a visial person, and I think this is a big gap in an otherwise close to perfect solution.
