Exclusive iPhone 6s Feature Revealed

Published

on

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will bring an exclusive feature to consumers this fall that will not appear on older iPhones even with the upcoming iOS 9 update.

For months rumors pointed to a new iPhone 6s feature called Force Touch. Simply put the iPhone screen will be able to sense how hard you touch if this feature arrives on board.

We already use this on the Apple Watch and on the Apple Trackpad on newer MacBook models to access secondary menus or pull up a second function by pushing harder. Unlike a long press you might be familiar with, Force Touch relies on a harder push, which may come naturally to some users.

The Fall 2015 Apple Event takes place on Wednesday September 9th, where we expect to see the iPhone 6s announcement, including all of the details about this exclusive new feature.

Here’s a closer look at the new iPhone 6s feature.

The iPhone 6s will use Force Touch similar to the Apple Watch and touchpads mentioned, based on a multitude of reports. A new more detailed report from Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac outlines more details about the iPhone 6s Force Touch feature.

According to Gurman’s sources the iPhone 6s will use a new type of Force Touch, an upgrade from what is available on the Apple Watch. Sources tell the publication that Apple plans to call this new iPhone 6s feature, 3D Touch Display.

Current Force Touch devices can only determine the difference between a regular tap and a harder tap, but the iPhone 6s 3D Touch Display will reportedly feature the ability to distinguish between three types of touch interactions.

  • Normal tap
  • Press on the Screen
  • Deeper press on the Screen

This will allow the iPhone 6s to determine the type of touch and respond in ways the iPhone 6 or older cannot. This will include shortcuts, similar to how the Apple Watch lets users press harder to pull up a second menu or to clear all notifications.

Along with the iOS 9 level applications, there will likely be games that take advantage of new levels of control. While this may not reach the same level as a physical controller, three types of touch will open up new gaming. The report also outlines a chance that this technology will come to the iPad Pro.

We expect the iPhone 6s release date soon after the Apple Event. iPhone 6s pre-orders will likely start on September 11th and users should be able to walk into a store and buy the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus starting on September 18th.
