First iPhone 4S Review

Published

on

The iPhone 4S has started shipping early to some customers, and now we have our first iPhone 4S review compliments of a German user who has had time to go hands on with the iPhone 4S.

This is the first review we have seen of the iPhone 4S. The review comes from YoutTube user applemastertouch, who gives us a tour of the iPhone 4S, iOS 5‘s new Siri feature, and shows off how well Siri handles voices with accents.

Applemastertouch gives us a good look at the iPhone 4S software and performance, as well as showing us that Siri has a sense of humor.

In the review we skip right over the look and feel of the iPhone 4S, because it is practically identical to the iPhone 4. With that, we head straight into the features of iOS 5 and the iPhone 4S.

iPhone 4S Review Shows Siri Has a Sense of Humor

We agree that Siri is one of the biggest iPhone 4S features, and it is great to see the assistant app in use by a regular user. Siri appears to handle the reviewer’s accent very well.

After covering the basic Siri questions, we find out that Siri has a sense of humor, responding to “I love you” with, “I hope you don’t say that to those other mobile phones.”

You can get an idea of the Siri’s abilities thanks to math questions, reminders and even telling you what time it is in another location.

In the iPhone 4S review, you also get a look at Newsstand, which he describes as “iBooks for magazines and newspapers.” You cannot remove the Newsstand icon or hide it in a folder.

You’ll see a metronome app in the iPhone 4S review, but it is not part of iOS 5, it is a separate standalone app that likely loaded up when he connected to iCloud or synced for the first time.

Towards the end of his video review, we get a look at the iPhone 4S camera app. The iPhone 4S benefits from a better hardware camera and from the better camera app that is part of iOS 5. We are promised an outdoor 1080P video sample from the iPhone 4S, but it has not yet arrived.

Instead, we have what appears to be an iPhone 4S 1080P sample video that is included on the device. Keep in mind this was likely shot by a professional, so your results may vary. Still, the sample video is beautiful. If you really want to see the quality, crank it up to 1080P and watch in full screen.

Finally, we see the settings on the iPhone 4S, where you can control what iCoud syncs, and a fast look at other settings.

According to the reviewer, the iPhone 4S has, “way, way better improved performance than the iPhone 4.” Unfortunately, he doesn’t expand any further on what this means for gaming and other processor intensive activities. You can get an idea of benchmarks in this iPhone 4S hands on.

iPhone 4S Buying Advice

At the end of the review, you can get some iPhone 4S buying advice. Because situations differ, I suggest you check out our iPhone 4S buying guides below, which will help you decide if you should upgrade to the iPhone 4S from the iPhone 4 and which carrier is best for you.

Why do you keep calling the features “futures?”  Are you not aware of the correct usage or is this done on purpose?
