Five Recent iPhone and iPad Games You Need To Play
Every Thursday a collection of big new games lands on the iOS App Store. Some weeks there’s a few big titles, some weeks there’s just one or two. Many of the games are fun, but not for everyone. So, here’s a few games that came out in the past few weeks that we really like, and think you should download now.
This collection of games ranges from puzzle games to music games, and even an old-school role-playing game. Four of them just came out last week, and one (the RPG) is a few weeks old. There’s no particular order to the games in the list, as we think all of them deserve a place on your iPhone or iPad.
As Rovio’s first new franchise since Angry Birds, Amazing Alex continues the company’s line of great games. Amazing Alex will remind many users of the of The Incredible Machine games, which is a good thing. The game doesn’t have a story like Angry Birds, it’s simply a collection of physics puzzles with Rube Goldberg machines. For $0.99 on the iPhone and $2.99 on the iPad, Amazing Alex offers hours of fun puzzle solving.
The new update for Tiny Wings adds a brand new mode and higher resolution graphics. The new Flight School mode adds competitive multiplayer that brings a whole new dimension to the game. While the original mode is still the same stress-free gameplay, the multiplayer races make players want to constantly get better. Well worth the $0.99 on iPhone and $2.99 on iPad.
Knights of The Round Cable Is a game about knights swinging around pegs to collect gems. The idea is silly, but surprisingly fun. The game uses two virtual buttons: one to attach the knight to the closest rock/peg, and another to change the direction of the spin. While collecting gems, the knight also has to avoid obstacles like ghosts, witches, and birds. It’s a strange game, but a fun one nonetheless. It’s just $0.99 for both the iPhone and iPad versions.
In this old-school RPG Cthulhu sets out to save the world so he can eventually destroy it. Like many great 16-bit RPGs from the past, the premise is simple, but the game is fun. The controls for moving around could use some work or a virtual joystick, but the current tapping and swiping works well after the initial learning curve. The combat is turn-based like all old RPGs, and the dialogue is pretty funny. We hope the controls will change eventually, but for $2.99, it’s still a lot of fun on either the iPhone or iPad.
The Tap Tap series was one of the first franchises on iOS. The original game was actually a jailbreak game before the App Store existed. The latest game adopts the series to the modern App Store freemium model. The game is free to download, and offers a few songs for free. It’s a relatively simple music game, but it’s still fun if you can find songs you like in the collection. It’s iPhone only, and works best on smaller iOS devices, though it still looks great on the new iPad.
