Follow up on Office Depot Sales Scams

Published

office-depot-exteriorLast week we brought you word of Laptop Mag’s reporting on shady sales practices at Office Depot. The theme behind the shennanigans was that managers and sales associates were being required to push highly profitable add ons like extended warranties and tech services and would tell customers that a device was out of stock if the customer wasn’t interested in the extra services.

This week the folks at Laptop Mag have done some follow up and published a couple of posts that delve a little deeper. Both are worth a read. Of course the upper echelons of Office Depot managment are disclaiming and blaming this on bad behavior downstream on the management and employee ladder.   The second post has some interesting info on this kind of thing from the Federal Trade Commission.

Hmm, it’s all very well blaming middle management but the buck stops at the board! Also, it usually follows that this behaviour by Managers is due to some sort of pressure, which is likely from on high, bonuses based on short term revenue rather than customer service focus, fear for job security due to high sales targets and similar.
