Congratulations are in order big time. First, a hearty and heartfelt round of
bravos to KathieEM22
for her winning entry. Her delightfully illustratedpoem captured not only the
spirit of the contest, but the hearts of the judges, and also GBM forum members
who voted for her entry. KathieEM22 is now the proud owner of a brand new Motion
LS800 Tablet PC valued at almost $2,200.Here are the specs of this beauty.[*]Genuine Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition [*]Intel® Centrino® MobileTechnology components: [*]Mobile Intel® Pentium® M Processor ULV 753 (1.2GHz) [*]Intel 915GMS Express Chipset [*]Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG 802.11b/g networking [*]1GB of DDR2 RAM [*]60GB Hard drive [*]8.4" SVGA TFT display [*]Integrated Fingerprint Reader [*]Integrated Bluetooth® and IrDA [*]Integrated Ethernet [*]Full-size digitizer pen [*]One-year standard warranty

KathieEM22?s new Motion LS800 will be on her way to her shortly, (if we can
pry it out of Dennis? hands.)

But KathieEM22 is not the only one to be congratulated. TeamGBM also sends
out major kudos to the other finalists, SimsHsia, Tableteer, PalmSolo,
and 64Pilot.
And in addition to major kudos, we are also sending these four finalists a license to MindJet?s MindManager. (Valued at $300.)
Mindjet is another company whose support for GBM and our efforts here is always
appreciated. Congrats. The finalists? entries can be viewed here.
And we?d also like to give a big thank youto all those who entered the contest
for their efforts. The creativity was really flowing and certainly made it a
difficult job for us to pick the final five. All of the contest entries can be
viewed here.

TeamGBM would also, of course, like to extend thanks to Motion Computing for their
generous sponsorship of the contest, making it possible in the first place. We?d
also like to thank the good folks from Motion Computing who served as judges for
their time and efforts inhelping make this contest a success.

What a fun time this contest has been and thanks to all for
participating!

Don't feel too sad Dennis, it's going to a good home!

Mind Manager will be cool to try out and work with, it might help me get ideas out faster for these upcoming final papers and thesis I have!

First of all, much congratulations, Kath, SimsHsia, Palm, Pilot, and Tableteer.

Also, I have to say this or it'll drive me crazy.

I personally believe the judging on who to select as the finalists was unfair considering the people with no illustrations in their entries were not even considered...

I applaud Kath and DRTigerlilly both for having the idea of using OneNote on their existing tablet PCs to make their entries; I would have done similar at least for a few illustrations, but I do not have a working tablet PC with which I could have. (hence my entering this contest )

I may or may not speak for more than just myself here, but personally I did not have the resources with which to illustrate my entry like the finalist entries, and I think it was just a bit biased toward the people who could and did.

I for one thoroughly enjoyed the Rescue Kittens story, and robbsmom's (wishful thinking? dream sequence and would have liked to see one or both of them on the final list. I don't think that just because they didn't use ink to do it, they should be excluded from the running; not everyone has the same outlets for their vast creative potential.

With that said, afraid of looking like a selfish, foolish, poor sport, I will respectfully concede to the powers that be, and congratulate them for another great contest. Either way, I had a lot of fun writing my entry and reading many of the others. The contest brought together a lot of diverse talent, and it is good to see so many different takes on creative writing.

BTW, Please don't take this post as indicating I have any sort of grudge against the finalists or the judges - I just don't think there was equal consideration for what I thought to be some quite entertaining entries, that's all. I have no hard feelings, and hope I don't cause any. Cheers!

And if you would not mind, please let me know, if possible, how I can better express my concerns or disagreements (for lack of better words?) in a positive manner in the future. I know I have to work on that, and I'm pretty sure this post will have upset someone by now. I just don't know any other way to get my message across. Thanks

fury,

I don't think you post should upset anyone. Certainly I'm not upset by it. But that's my one man's opinion. I can't and won't speak for the other team members. As to expressing your concerns or disagreements, I think you should feel quite assured you did so without any need for improvement in my one man's opinion. Like the contest and the judging itself, each of our opinions or contributions is subjective and how we express them is equally subjective. How they are perceived is also completely subjective based as much on the recipient as it is on the one doing the sharing.

I can assure you and anyone else that there was equal consideration for all of the entries, whether they contained illustrations or no. Like you I was amazed at the diversity of talent and applaud all of the entrants whether they became a finalist or not.

Thanks for the feedback and the way it was presented.
