I'd liketo ask the tablet pc folks out thereif anyone is interested in donating a brand new tablet as an award to a student. I had a donor ($1500) whose company was purchased, and the new owner doesn?t want to help. It?s 10 days until the conference and I now have no tablet as the prize for the best undergraduate research poster, and I really am pulling out all the stops to regain this great prize.

The conference is the Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society. We expect over 2000 attendees and have nearly 150 student posters to judge. The donor will get as much advertising as I can muster at this late date, and a W9 form for their tax return-we?re a nonprofit organization, so it?s a complete write off.
If you are interested, know someone who is interested or have any ideas, please contact me at:

Eric,
I'll circulate this request among some influencers and see if anyone steps up.
Edit:
I've cross-posted this to The Buzz

Thanks, WN. I was going to post there also, but I like to ask permission for this kind of thing before hand. Just couldn't remember whom to ask.

I'm bumping this in hopes someone hasn't read down the page a bit. It's getting close and still no tablet. We have software ($2000 of scientific software has been donated to go on the tablet) and no place to put it. Please help, if you need a good tax writeoff.

Eric,
I just checked in on the private newsgroups where I circulated this. Sorry - no bites. Blogged it too, but no related comments.
Sorry - not in a position to do more.

Good news: I have, through local means, obtained some funding for the tablet. So, now I actually am in need of either (1) a really good price from an OEM or VAR, or (2) the additional funds to complete a purchase. It's still a complete write-off on your taxes, so please contact me if you are interested.
So that you all know, this tablet purchase is the last item of a $6300 proposed budget. The other money (all donations or from grants) is providing food, speakers, other prizes, and registration fees for students. In addition, we have been blessed with nearly $4000 in software from Wavefunction (the makers of Spartan Computational Software), CambridgeSoft (the makers of ChemDraw) and OriginLabs (the makers of Origin Plotting Software). This conference has never had prizes like ours available, which has made this a severely ambitious project.

Late Thursday, I was given a donation that allowed me to obtain a Toshiba Tecra M7 from Allegiance Technology Partners. The great price extended to us by Allegiance is far better than I could have expected, so many, many thanks to their assistance and giving spirit in this matter. This all means that a lucky undergraduate student will be given a fantastic tablet with over $2000 in software installed next Saturday.
I also must extend thanks to all of you who tried to find some way to help but were unsuccessful. The effort was enough to show how supportive the tablet community is.
