I was wondering if GBM is planning a software inkshow on the new version of RitePen.
-
Good question. I've used it a bit and like it a lot...but it's still a little rough around the edges...so I end up turning it off all the time. I know that some of my concerns are due to not having worked with it much, but things like editing just seem so much more practical using the TIP.
I also find that I end up drawing lines way to often when I'm trying to access a GUI component, like a scroll bar or button.
-
I actually prefer RitePen for editing (provided major revisions are not needed). For minor changes, I find it easier to do quick RitePen input than calling up the Tip, having it fill part of my screen, and then hovering over the input button. For longer entries, I do prefer the Tip, as the results can be edited more easily.
I've set the selection timeout to about 200 ms, so that even when I do get an unwanted line, like when selecting text, it disappears quickly.
Version 3.0 seems to be more accurate in terms of recognition, and the addition of macro functions is very nice. For example, I created a macro so that when I write "w" and draw a circle around it, Word opens.

3 is by far the best version. Recognition is better, macros are now present, problems with inadvertent drawing on the scroll bar,are essentially gone, adding new words is fast and easy and you can even import vocabularies. I converted several medical reports, saved in Word, to a text file and then imported the text document into rP. rP3 parses the words into rP avoiding redundant words! Of course the best feature of all, at least for me, is the avoidance of the TIP obscuring my underlying application. Edited by: Digitaldoc

I really enjoy the macros. I use them to launch my most used programs and files as well as inputting often used text. ritePen 3.0 is much improved on the scroll bar issue which frustrated me to no end. I find that I prefer ritePen to the Windows XP tip. I am not sure if I prefer it to the Vista tip experience however.

I was using RitePen this morning in the Open Office word processor.
Impressions: really nice to ink directly on the page. Or the desktop!
Found myself calling up the tip to add spaces between words. I wish their punctuation square had space and backward forward like the TIP does.
Still I really like just writing on the page. With the TIP I keep looking back forth like it's a tennis match, and it bugs me that it blocks the page beneath. Ritepen's tiny toolbar is nice!
I found you have to be careful about spacing your words. RitePen comes up with some truly bizarre results when it tries to run two words together as one.
Love the macros!

Great advice, flecrone!
That was the only nuisance I encountered with this otherwise quite
convincing program.
Your advice makes it practically hassle-free. The macros are a gem.
What I am missing is a way to have an option to start it automatically when Vista boots.
UAC and Defender set in. That option would make it perfect for me.
Thanks a lot!

Adding spaces between words is really simple. Have you looked at the mouse gestures? An "L" shape adds a space. You can also backspace and pull up a punctuation menu by a gesture.
Go here to learn about it.

Thanks, tableteer! I did look at the mouse gestures, but I'm not too familiar with them yet. I have a feeling that I should remember a lot of them from Graffiti, but I'm getting old. I should maybe make myself a doc with quick cheat sheet until I learn them.

Can Someone Explain to me why Rite Pen isn't Compatible with One Note or Journal? I don't get that!
