I am on the case, trying to figure out how to get secondary langscape and portrait orientations enabled and I will post back with anything I find. But has anyone already figured out how?

Also, how do you get these darn stickers off? They really distract from an otherwise beautiful tablet but I'm afraid to just start digging with my nail lest I scratch the surface. I don't think I've ever bothered to take the stickers off a laptop or tablet before, or if i did, I have a feeling that it messed it up. Anyone get these off successfully?

Fingernails are relatively soft, so you should be fine. Alternatively, grab a thin knife like an Xacto or razor blade, and carefully slide it underneath the stickers. You can use a small bit of WD-40 to remove any adhesive residue (don't use acetone/paint thinner!).

To get secondary landscape and portrait orientations, you need to download the latest GMA driver from Intel. these rotations will be available only by right-clicking on the desktop or on the Intel icon in the task bar.
Also, the only way I found to calibrate the pen in secondary orientation was to download the Wacom driver and use its intrinsic Calibration feature.
Let's hope HP will release an updated driver Soon.Edited by: Pyxus

I tried downloading it but it said it wasn't authorized for this computer model.

Oh and by the way, stickers came off with no scratches. I got the goop off with some hand sanitizer that I keep in my bag.

Try forcing it using Device Manager and the "Have Disk..." method.

The Device Manager didn't work. Windows wouldn't install the driver because it insisted that the currently installed one was better. But anyway, I found that by removing the display adapter from device manager (which surprisingly didn't request a reboot) allowed me to install the Intel driver without the above error.

Awesome, now secondary portrait and landscape are available, but as Pyxus mentioned, only the Intel config utility is "aware" of these new orientations so Vista doesn't let you switch to it using the tablet control panel nor does it let you calibrate the digitizer.

But I founda solution to that problem as well! So here it is, the steps to get Secondary Portrait and Secondary Landscape fully supported on the 2710p (standard disclaimers apply, I am not responsible, yada yada, Linux partitions will be toasted, etc):

    1) Download the latest Intel GMA drivers from www.intel.com
    2) Open device manager and remove the display adapter, checking the box to delete the driver software.
    3) Your tablet will temporarily revert to 800x600 centered on the display which means the pen will be interpolated, so you might wanna switch to laptop mode for now.
    4) Install the Intel GMA drivers, they will require a reboot.
<STRIKE>5) Open regedit and browse to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TabletPC\Dis playOrientations</STRIKE>
<STRIKE>6) Add two *keys* under DisplayOrientation called "SecondaryPortrait" and "SecondaryLandscape"</STRIKE>
<STRIKE>7) Under SecondaryLandscape, create the following three 32 bit DWORD values:</STRIKE>
    <STRIKE>DefaultOrientationSeq=0x3, ImageID=0x160, OrientationMode=0x2</STRIKE>
<STRIKE>8) Under SecondaryPortrait, create the following three 32 bit DWORD values:</STRIKE>
    <STRIKE>DefaultOrientationSeq=0x4, ImageID=0x161, OrientationMode=0x1
</STRIKE>(Update, see next post for a simpler alternative.)

Now open the Tablet PC control panel applet and you should see all 4 orientations available as well as the option to calibrate each and change their sequence.

Here's the thing though, the HP automatic rotate feature (accessed by going into the Q menu) will still choose primary portrait and landscape. So you might wanna turn that off. Also, Intel has predefined hotkeys for changing the orientation. CTL+UP, CTL+DOWN, CTL+LEFT, and CTL+RIGHT set the orientation accordingly.

If I figure out a way to replace or alter the Q menu to provide a better rotation experience I'll let you know.Edited by: EinsteinTech

Update: Here is a reg file that will add the secondary orientations to the tablet pc control panel as well as to your Q menu. No need to mess around in the registry. Save the attached file with a .reg extension and double click. Again, I assume no responsibility. This will most likely reset any customizations to your Q menu but you can add them back. Don't forget to calibrate the new rotations. THIS IS FOR VISTA ONLY. Should work fine on 64 bit but let me know it not. It's a pretty low-risk reg edit but browse over it anyway.

OK looks like I can't attach but contents are below.

Josh, is there a way to set the default to secondary-portrait when one rotates the screen? I am hoping that there would be a registry setting that would allow me to change it. Thanks.
