I've recently purchased a 2710p and am a very big fan of almost everything about it. One odd thing I've noticed that might be unique to my machine is a problem with the pointing stick. When I'm moving it around and come to a stop, it very often just keeps moving along as if it's slightly stuck in that direction. I have to hit it again to make it stop moving. This becomes very annoying at times when I just want to click on something. Anybody else experience similar issues and know whether its an internal problem or actually something off with the pointing stick?

    Hi Luger,

I first would try to reinstall or update the driver.
If the problem is still there, perhaps the touchstick is just a little bit dirty,

I don't know if it's normal, but on my machine I can take away the rubber cap from the touchstick. So there is a way to make it clean underneath it.
    Maybe it's worth a try.

Excellent, thanks, TJ. I got my touchstick driver updated and it seems to be running smoother for the time being. Don't know why I didn't think of that!

Ugh, actually, scratch that. It's still not working correctly. It just tends to drift a lot of times when I let go of the stick.

    luger,

Have you tried going into your control panel hardware settings? There are settings for the track stick there. Maybe you don't have enough drag on the pointer. That could explain a problem with drift.

I have the same problem. Shows up about once or twice a week. I just move it around a little bit and it stops.

I haven't fiddled with the hardware settings because it's something that seems to happen when I let go of the touchstick.

Thanks, munderhill, I'm glad I'm not just crazy and that it happens to others. It just so happens that mine is a couple times a day usually.

Mine will slow downa few timesa day, it requires additional force to keep it moving. Eventually it will stop moving regardless of the force applied.
Taking my finger off the stick will cause it to drift across the screen. The nearest I can figure is that it is the rubber cover is messing with the stick underneath. The rubber is really loose, it takes minimal force to pull it off. I found that it won't occur if the rubber is gone, that's why I think that is the cause.

This happens to me quite a bit as well - and as mentioned it wont happen with the rubber cover off. If anyone figure out a solution I would LOVE to hear it.

I've used trackpoints for years and never found a solution to this, however applying less force when dragging seems to temporarily prevent.
