    Hey all,

Another question for the masses I'm afraid..

I was wondering if anyone could explain the Intels drivers (and HP software) that comes with the 2730p becuase of the Centrino 2 chip..

Firstly, what is AMT and TPM? Do I really need it and can I disable them in the BIOS and the uninstall the drivers as they take up a lot of vista memory and I don't think I need them.

Also, why is Virtualisation switched off by default in the BIOS and again, do I really need it?

    Thanks in advance,

    Regards,
    Paul

TPM = Trusted Platform Module used for DRM and used by Vista for BitLocker
AMT = Active Management Technology used by 3rd party management software such Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager

Virtualization is used by Virtual PC 2007 SP1, Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1, and Server 2008 Hyper-V or VMWare ESX Server

As long as you or your IT department isn't using these technologies you should be able to disable these services....

    HTH,
Virtualization is also used by VMware Workstation. If you want to be able to run 64 bit guest systems under VMware workstation, then you need to enable that feature.

You may also notice the vPro sticker. That refers to the virtualization feature set. The idea with vPro is that you actually run under a guest OS and the host is therefore protected from viruses, rootkits, etc. To use vPro you need to enable virtualization.
