I have been using the OQO 02 as my only computer since about June, 2008. Lately, I have been getting annoyed by how slow it is. I even pulled out my old Lenovo x60t to see if I could use HDMI for the display. (Not that I can figure out, and I am now spoiled by HDMI out from the OQO). I do not think the OQO has slowed down all that much since I got it, but maybe my computing needs have increased. For whatever reason, I am now thinking of replacing the OQO as my sole computer. I know OQO is coming out with the 02+, but am not going to get one until they have been out for a year or so, unless they release it to rave reviews.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

So here is my issue: I want to get a computer that has XP Tablet as the installed OS. Not just on the recovery disk, which I then have to do. I have looked at different manufacturers, and do not see any that come with XP installed.

Alternatively, maybe there is a way to get a better display out from the x60?

What to do? Any suggestions?

I hope I can help you on this.
If you are interested in a refurbished Dell, you may find a few XT's that were preloaded with XP tablet.テつ*
If you are willing purchase a customized HP, they have options to select the XP Tablet OS.テつ*
Good Luck

Thank you cityhopper. I was not aware that HP would pre-load XP Tablet. I thought when I called, they told me I would have to do it. I am still wondering if I should have my Lenovo x60T re-imaged, or whatever they call it to wipe out the HD, and start again.

I will look at the HP site now. Thanks.

lark, I do see on the consumer TPC units on HP, you can only select Vista. However, if you purchased the 2700 TPC series, it is offered with Vista with software included to downgrade to XP-TPC edition.テつ*
Alternatively, as I experienced that I did not purchase addidtional recovery media. I assume it wouldn't be a problem to buy a unit pre-loaded with Vista. Then call Support to purchase the recovery media for XP-TPC. That way you'll have both as options and the applicaton and recovery drivers.テつ*
As far as the performance with the OQO, have you ran any utilities to help speed up your unit (defragging, utility cleaner, reclaim space, etc...)? I will likely buy Model 2+ later in the year as a "netbook"/"super"-pda to my Tablet.テつ*

If I decide to replace the OQO, I needthe new computerdelivered with XP Tablet. I am not tech savy. More of a tech enthusiast, but no actual skills to do anything.

I use Registry Mechanic on the OQO, but maybe there is some other program to add? I have de-selected a lot of the processes, and eliminated them from auto starting on boot up.

Are you interested in an OQO 02? I may have one for sale. This is not an awful machine by any means. It just seems to not meet my computing needs. In fairness, I knew it was going to be less powerful that my previous x60T, but thought I could live with it. I still may have to live with it.

Hi lark!

If I am not mistaken, we are past the date on which the powers-that-be at Microsoft deemed that no OEM could ship computers with XP. So, unless you go for a refurb unit built before the deadline, the best you will be able to get a computer shipped with Vista, with downgrade recovery disks for XP Tablet.

But lark, please, do not despair. Using the recovery disk is as simple as putting it in a disk drive and clicking a few times. You can do this. I know there are complicated instructions all over this site about how to do a clean installation, without any of the "crapware" included on new machines, and that is a little trickier, although KOL0 has written a really good guide that even I could follow step-by-step if I had to.

You don't NEED a clean install. You can put in the XP Tablet disk and get to XP painlessly. I promise. So please don't limit yourself. Just make sure you get those XP disks shipped with your new computer.

Thank you Sharon. You have given me hope I may be able to do this. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

I remember when I was about 3 years old, I got beaten up by the kid across the street. Of course, I went home to collect my older siblings to settle matters with this kid. My mother intervened, saying it would not be fair to have 3 against 1. テ「??You can handle this yourself,テ「?? she insisted. テ「??You do not need to have other people to fight this fight. If you have to, go back there and settle this on your own.テ「??

Flushed with confidence, I went back across the street テ「?? and got shellacked.

I hope the recovery disk is not the computer equivalent of Victor テ「?? the kid across the street.
