Gadget Stimulus Plan Day 14: Win One of Three PDF Annotator Licenses

Published

on

PDF Annotator We love giving away stuff on GottaBeMobile.com and Notebooks.com. We especially love giving away stuff that impact your day to day productivity as a mobile user, and what better way to do that than with Grahl Software’s PDF Annotator.

If you’ve frequented GottaBeMobile any over the past several years, then you’ve likely seen a few of our InkShow video reviews on PDF Annotator (here and here). It is a fantastic piece of software that allows a Tablet PC user to mark up / ink directly on a PDF, save that document as a PDF, create new PDFs, and more. I’ve used pdf annotating software a great deal over the years to sign faxes, medical documents, proposals, etc, and it saves a lot of hassel from having to deal with printing the document, signing it, and then scanning it back it in to send it to the recipient – whip out your pen, sign the PDF, save it, and send it back – it is that easy. Nothing goes better together than a Tablet PC and great pdf annotating software like PDF Annotator.

If you have not given PDF Annoator a try, then today is your lucky day. The good folks at Grahl Software have given us THREE licenses of PDF Annotator 2.0 to give away and here is how we are doing it.

1) The first license will be given away by choosing a random entry from all of those that leave a comment on this post. Just tell us how a software solution like PDF Annotator will impact your day to day personal, school, or business life.

2) The second license will be given away on Notebooks.com – you’ll need to head over there to check out those rules.

3) The third license will be given away by choosing a random entry from all those who twitter something about PDF Annotator (ie – how cool it is, about the contest, how you’ll use it in school, business,   the contest, etc).   Just include the hash tag #PDFAnnotator in your tweet to be eligible.

Meanwhile, head over to Grahl Software and download a free 30-day trial to get started using the software today. PDF Annotator retails for $69.95.

We will accept entries through midnight MST, Friday April 24th and contact the winners via email or reply via Twitter. This contest is open to US and international readers. A person can enter only once in each of the three methods, but will only be eligible to win one license – ie, you have three chances to win a single license. The winner has 48 hours to reply to our email or Twitter reply, after which another winner will be chosen. A license key will be emailed to the three winners.

As a college professor, PDF Annotator is a program I could use regularly — probably daily — for commenting on readings, grading papers, singing documents, and other tasks. I’m a recent convert to the tablet world and it is transforming the way I work. PDF Annotator would only make it better.

If they ever have another 1/2 off sale, I’ll buy it. It’s very convenient to fill out and sign .PDF’s on the fly, but the price is just a bit out of reach.

OMG! I nnnneeeeeeeed this for school! I used the trial to mark up my PDF notes that my instructors provide but the trial ran out and I just couldn’t swing the 70.00.
IMHO, it is the MUST HAVE program for Tablet PC’s.

I would love to have a license for the current version, I am also using the previous one. It’s capabilities are very useful in reviewing/marking up tax returns in the preparation process. What would be really great would be to get the Grahl folks together with the tax prep software provider and integrate that capability, but I suppose that may be hoping for too much ;-).

I frequently distribute policy and help documentation to students, parents, and faculty using PDFs. We also have MFP (MultiFunctionPrinters) that turn paper documents into PDFs for annotation. Right now, I have to use OneNote or Windows Journal to ink them. If I want to redistribute, I need to reconvert them to PDF before I distribute. Sounds like PDF Annotator would fix that.

I am an attorney, and PDF Annotator was the final frosting on my mobility cake.

It is now possible to file papers in most Courts, but many limit filings to “fax” because they still require a cursive signature.

Adding Annotator to my arsenal, I can now, from anywhere in the world, draft, research, “print” to PDF — and now SIGN — papers for filing in Court, and then simply upload them to my filing service — all with no word ever having been written on actual PAPER.

Sorry for the obviousness of my post…I’ll use this to annotate the pdf notes that instructors provide for my classes.

As a tablet student I would use PDF Annotator in almost all of my classes to annotate the lecture notes, handouts, etc. directly! That would really improve my student life!

I’m a grad student and just got a tablet PC. PDF Annotator would be great for reading and making notes on journal articles. I’m currently using the trial but I’m not sure if it’s worth $70.

I could use it where I volunteer to help people find Refinance Options for troubled homeowners. Most of the forms available are already in PDF.

As a medical student, we are constantly bombarded with information. We can easily go through 20 pages of notes (front and back) per day and up to 1,000 pages per block, which lasts 10-11 weeks each. In the first two years of medical school along, that can be well over 5,000 pages of notes if not more.

I have opted out of getting the monstrous packet of notes by investing in a tablet PC, plus using the powerpoint presentations and pdfs they provide us online. Right now only take notes on my powerpoint presentations as my 30-day trial of PDF annotator has long expired. However with a full license, I can take notes on the pdf only files as well, and also take notes in the pdf versions of textbooks I have as well as I study for boards next month.

I delighted to see so many responses here from those in education (et de la France!). This software was just presented to a working group at my university, and sounds ideal for those of us who use tablets.

As an employee. that works from home for a company 2300 miles away, I would use PDFAnnotator to add signatures to my PDFs instead of faxing them.

I would also use this to mark up documents and share.

This software has been invaluable when dealing with lengthy real estate documents. I feel like with all the paper that gets printed out, copied, and faxed that I kill a tree every time a client wants to make an offer on a house.

With PDF Annotator, the files only have to be printed out once. Also, the turn around time seems faster with emailed documents.

I am an university student. I am in Engineering, and there are always tons of symbols and stuff that the tablet had helped me a lot in writing. I would love the ability of using PDF Annotator so that I can keep the pdf files put up by the professors as pdfs instead of always importing them to OneNote

    04/22/2009 at 12:34 pm

Oh sweet! Tried out the app by Trial once, it’s great for annotating school notes. Professors often provide notes/reading materials by PDF format and this is a great way to annotate them. Use it before class to jot that notes, highlight important things – even better in class. I’ve used OneNote as an alternative sometimes, but writing on the PDF itself is much cleaner and faster – seems so anyway.

I’ve also used it for filling out Rebate forms on occassion – saves the hassle of making multiple copies for backups ( in case rebates get lost, etc. ).

I am also a university student. My loans have made it difficult for me to afford an upgrade to the new version. However, even the old software has been invaluable for annotating my textbook pdfs. With back problems, the new software will help me to avoid even more pain from carrying around so many books during the day.

In my forever search for the best paper grading using handwriting solution, a pdf program that goes well with a tablet pc would be a perfect addition. PDF are nice because you can lock them when turning back evaluation to students and because their format is so universal so all students can read–even those graduate students who are in later less tech savvy generations. Here to luck of the draw.

To Whom It May Concern: I am a member of a computer system support group for a technical publications department that produces thousands of manuals every year.

Part of my job is to evaluate this type of software. Unfortunately the 30 day time frame is insufficient to properly evaluate this product. I work on several different programs across the country, and I’m also the â€Ŕgo to guy” management heavily relies upon for technology enhancements.

I’ve had a request to investigate this software, primarily because of it’s unique capabilities but there are two problems. The first is money ( I don’t have any to spend on programs like this) , and the second problem is time. Although this software has a 30 free trial, this is woefully insufficient. I would need to have a licensed copy tor it for at least a year to determine how this tool could potentially be incorporated into our list of software tools that we use for publishing our data either here or at one of the other sites across the country.

I could also see how PDF Annotator would be very useful during technical validations, or during review conferences with our customers on technical changes that need to be made to the data.

I wish all the other contestants luck with winning the software to.

    Respectfully

    Kerry

As a College Professor using this software will help me save lots of trees. Many of the files we have to comment on are PDFs and that means printing them out and writing on them. But with this software I could comment on them as an electronic file and then take my tablet to the meetings and not have to waste reams of paper.

I use this to review technical documents (datasheets) and marketing collateral written by our local and overseas writers. I love the ability to draw free flowing lines or scribble out quick pictures to more clearly explain the edits. These “natural” writing methods shorten our review cycles and shorten my editing time. It’s a lifesaver when working with people in other offices – especially if my language is not their native language.

PDF Annoator is such a handy peace of software. I use OneNote 2007 on my lenovo x200,but I don’t think it’s so usefull if you want to mark something on a pdf.

I have a much older version of PDF Annotator, and use it constantly to make notations on client documents, sign e-documents, etc. It’s fabulous software that just increases in usefulness with each version that comes out.

I already have a PDF Annotator license through my school. However, I would immediately hand the license to my friend who is leaving for his first year of college next year and will be buying a tablet. He’s not the most organized and doesn’t have the best educational track record, but I believe that with the right tools he can perform up to a higher standard.

    04/22/2009 at 3:18 pm

It won’t be useful at this precise moment, but I can see it being tremendously helpful when I start collge. Even now, though, it could come in handy for highlighting things I need to do (as listed in the college catalog).

    04/22/2009 at 3:42 pm

I’ve bought a license 2 years ago. It’s the best app for tablet PCs and editing PDFs. All my University documents are PDFs and so I could make my annotations to the docs without printing them and saved a lot of money. Also I didn’t need to carry all the printed docs in my bag as I had them on my laptop, which I have in my bag anyhow. And I was able to download the docs during the lectures and so was always up to date.

As a lieutenant I can use this to create reports and then annotate them prior to sending them to higher. PDF is the preferred format as everyone can open it, the additional use of annotations will be a great asset.

My wife just received a technology grant through her University that is enabling her to purchase a laptop (in this case a tablet PC, the Lenovo x200). And while the funds have allowed for some really nice software as well (Camstasia Studio 6 and Microsoft Onenote), there just wasn’t enough left over for pdf annotation software which she was hoping to get. It would be great to tell her that she can now add this piece of software to her arsenal.

I have two main reasons for using PDF Annotator. I use it to sign documents, but I most often use it to highlight and makes notes in my lesson manuals. My church publishes everything as PDFs, so it’s great to be able to annotate when preparing Sunday School lessons, and other such things. If I won another copy, I’d certainly find a good home for it.

As a assistant of city government, PDF Annotator is a program I could use regularly — probably daily — for commenting on readings, grading papers, and other tasks. PDF Annotator allowed us to tell our members about changes and adittions into pdf, because the format isn`t modifiable. PDF Annotator would only make it better.

As a student i could use PDF Annotator for all my notes in lacture. It might make mobile-learning easier, if you have anything you need on your notebook and don’t need to tow everything in paper…
So i could use PDF Annotator daily.

The Annotator is the best choice good for all working with tablet pc / notebook and lots of pdf’s. You will avoid lots of paper in your bag, and with your tablet pc you know the advantages while using this in presentations. I would prefer for later developments also options for TIF’s and OneNote documents and for better linking to several documents.

As a student researcher, PDF annotator will help me immensely in taking notes, highlighting on research papers especially when used with a tablet pc. Also this saves me from printing tonnes of research articles, thus contributing my bit to the environment.

I am studying Computer Science and Electrical Engeneering and almost all my course material is published as PDF. As I am already taking notes within the courses it would be extremely helpful to make these notes directly on the PDFs. I have already tried the trial version, this piece of software is fantastic!

PDF Anotator is one of the most used proram on my tablet PC. I review and comment PhD tesis and draugh scientiific papers from collaborators — without printing any copy. I anotate Scientific papers for later use of the most interesting/relevant bits. I therefore save a lot on paper use (good for environment) and this software maximize the usefulnes of TabletPC.

Trying to start a business and use a tablet, being able to work directly with a pdf instead of fighting to convert it to one format then another just to get a few marks on it is a pain. This would be wonderful to mark and save.

  70. Sören

PDF Annotator is a great way to ink-up PDFs without destroying the features of the PDF (like bookmarks and text search).

With a lot of scientific articles online,
PDF Annotator would help me in my daily work in academia.

  74. Paul Thibaudeau

    04/23/2009 at 11:14 am

This kind of software is extremely important to me because of the type of work that I do. I am an anthropologist who works both as an Adjunct Professor at Carleton University (jointly between Sociology/Anthropology Department and the School of Industrial Design) and as a consultant carrying out research for government departments in the areas of aboriginal self-government, land claims and education. I currently use Endnote to hold over 2500 articles (all pdfs) and I add about 200-500 more each year. I read off the screen and make typewritten notes in Endnotes. If I were to print them up all up it would amount to over 30,000 pages – too much to carry and far too much paper potentially wasted.

Furthermore, I will be encouraging my students to submit their essays in an electronic format for commentary and editing – this saves paper and allows me to mark them up anywhere I happen to be (last fall, for example, I was up in the Arctic and I gave comments in Word – but it would have been much easier to give commentary via writing). And everyone can read pdf, making it easy for sharing between platforms and ignoring word processor types.

I have often had to deal with clients at a distance (such as when I was up North but finishing up a separate contract for a government office here in Ottawa). I often deal with maps and visual media that are saved as pdfs – being able to mark them up quickly for commentary would be very useful as well.

I am planning on getting a tablet portable soon (hopefully the Plastic Logic Reader), and being able to mark up a pdf would make it even easier to read them – this is, in my opinion, the best use of the technology. My livelihood depends on the rapid and efficient processing of information, and being able to read everything on a screen and mark it up makes me more capable of carrying out my work.

I deal with a lot of PDF “paperwork” in my work. A lot of which consists of scanned documents, which were once 100% digital. But they needed a signature, so they were printed, signed on paper, scanned again, emailed to me. Then I open it in Photoshop, convert to images, sign them, export as PDF, and then email it. Which I’m sure they print it again, sign on paper, and then scan again before emailing it again.

So wasteful. If we all had PDF Annotator, a REAL paperless office would be one more step closer to reality.

i would definitely read more since i like to make notes and mark up books i read. my p1610 would turn into a pdf ebook reader if i had a tool like a good pdf annotator.

Ok, I was enthused when I purchased my first version. I could annotate the many research papers that I download. BUT this program has saved me money! I do much field service work and had used triplicate work order/conformation forms for clients to sign. It was time to reorder the expensive carbonless forms and then have to deal with filing them. Well, with PDF annotator I scanned in one form and with my tablet PC I fill in the blanks have the client sign my screen, print out a copy with a small wireless printer that’s the end of it. When it comes time for billing I attach a copy to the bill. The new forms cost more than Annotator and the printer combined. I’m happy.

I will use PDF Annotator for school. As a tablet pc enthusiast, I find that the lack of tools for pen support in readers is “so behind the times”. There are solutions but this application really keeps the tablet user in mind.

I already worked with the previous version of PDF Annotator in school and found it very useful to annotate lecture materials (mostly print-outs of PowerPoint slides) provided by the lecturer.
It’s especially effective to work with documents in fullscreen mode and portrait orientation, and with the new features in PDF Annotator (improved fullscreen and bookmark functions), it should be even easier to replace “traditional” paper documents in class. After all, which folder can hold a semester’s worth of print-outs in 10 different courses?

PDF Annotator is on one of great alternative ways to correct student’s copies, with handwritten annotation directly on your tablets instead of printing.

PDF Annotator would save me a chaotic and full desk full of medical papers. I could annotate medical articles without the clutter of lines, annotations and highlights in the original document. Everything is nice and clean on my tablet pc. I can also now annotate and perhaps sign documents and send them directly over e-mail, inproving efficiciency and saving time for myself and my personal life. With the current paper trail I make, I can perhaps also save some trees and go green.

This would be so useful in the classroom when listening to children read and noting their reading behaviours.

This would be so useful for my classes; I am in university in Engineering. All the professors insist on giving all their notes in PDF format. I usually print them out and bring them to class with me, but this would save so much time and paper. No more waiting in line at the printer… :)

As a student, PDF Annotator would help with my regular class workflow (as I already am going mostly paperless already). I would like to see an up-to-date comparison with Bluebeam’s PDF Revu though.

As a teacher I use PDF’s all th time to create handouts for students. I would love to be able to mark their work electronically by annotating a PDF and sending it back to them. Usual story, schools have no money tho.

I would annotate PDFs with my signature, rather than faxing a signed hard copy.

I Suspect the deadline has passed – I annotate students’ assignments by converting pdf into an image using Journal. Annotator would be miles better!

I love PDF Annotator, but I just can’t fork over the money for an upgrade. I absolutely use it all the time after scanning in textbooks.

With a tablet HP 2710p on the “go” as an EMT with a local hospital 911 service and local fire dept. medical response calls, filling in reading-study times and marking notes on the pdf books would be a tremendous practical value. Sharing the “markups” with others would greatly facilitate communication, coordination and completion of certain projects as well. Pdf documents in books, etc. give such power to achieve so much more than our previous paper, pencil and pen culture could hardly dream about. Bring it on.

It’s very convenient not having huge stacks of papers (not to mention greener). Having all my annotated papers on my hard drive allows me to search them, back them up and more efficiently files them.

well, i don’t see a winner posted yet..so perhaps i may get lucky with a late entry.

I just got a tablet about a month ago & loving it. Still learning alot of things & discovering what tools will be good for me.

I would love to have this software in my medical studies where lots of notes are found in pdf not to mention the endless journal articles that are all electronic these days.

    Best of luck to all!
