Galaxy Nexus Release Date: 5 Things to Do While You Wait

Published

on

The wait for a real Galaxy Nexus release date continues.

While you wait for December 15th, or whatever Galaxy Nexus release date rumor comes up next, I wanted to share a collection of things you can do while you wait for your next phone.

If you spend a few minutes today, you can save time when you get the Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE on Verizon later this month.

Whether you are upgrading from an Android phone, like the original Droid, or switching from iPhone to the Galaxy Nexus, these quick tips will help you get ready for the Google Nexus.

Galaxy Nexus Release Date

Sign Up for Gmail, Google+ and Google Music

The Galaxy Nexus is going to bring Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the masses. Just as Gmail, and a Google login is essential to the Android experience, Google+ and Google Music are a big part of the Galaxy Nexus experience.

If you haven’t already done so, go over and sign up for Google+ and Google Music. Both of these services are free, for all users.

Once you sign up for Google Music, you should upload your music right now. The process could take a while, but at this rate it should finish before the Galaxy Nexus is released on Verizon.

Upload Your Pictures

If you have signed up for Google+, install the Android app on your phone and use it to upload all of your pictures to the cloud.

Other great options include using SugarSync to sync the photos to the cloud, your Mac or your Windows computer. If you are on a Mac, or switching from an iPhone, use iCloud of iPhoto to import all of your old photos, then upload them to Google+ so you have access to them on your Galaxy Nexus.

Clean Up Your Contacts

Gmail contacts can get unruly if you only manage them on your phone. Take this time to head over to your Gmail Contacts page to straighten up information.

This is a good time to merge duplicate contacts, set clean up contact information and set up groups. You can also add to the Starred in Android group to make it easier to find your favorite contacts on the Galaxy Nexus.

Switching From iPhone

If you are leaving Apple for the Galaxy Nexus 4G, I recommend checking out the following articles.

Kevin Purcell, shared his experience with switching from the iPhone 4 to an Android phone in a three-part series. This great group of articles will help make the switch to Android easier.

You can’t buy Android apps until you have your Galaxy Nexus in your hands (or if you have an old Android phone to use), but you can test out a bunch of Android apps on Amazon’s App Test Drive service.

Sell Your Old Phone

Once you have the Galaxy Nexus in hand, you won’t want to keep your old phone in a drawer. Do the responsible thing and recycle it with a company like Gazelle.com, which will pay you for your old phone.

Some devices, like the original Droid, are only worth $10, but if you have a newer device or an iPhone 3GS, you can get $100 or more for your old phone — which will make the $299 Galaxy Nexus price tag more palatable.

Any tips to help pass the time in a constructive manner?

Weird that there are no release date leaks or rumors flying around this week like there were last week.  We are 48 hours away from the next rumored release date and nothing from Verizon.  Hard to believe they will release the Android phone of the year with next to no marketing.

I find it hard to believe they will ever release the phone. No marketing? Absolutely — VZ doesn’t want to sell this device. They’re trying to kill the Nexus brand.

It seems like a lot less rumors this week.  Once the 9th came and went, I feel like there’s not near as much enthusiasm.

Loved the tips! I’ve never even heard of Gazelle.com, and learned I can get $35 for my Incredible. Thanks!

I’ll never understand why anyone would sell their stuff on gazelle.com (or anything like it) when people will pay so much more for literally anything on eBay or Craigslist. Am I missing something?

Malikona is right on… you’ll get much more for your phone on craigslist. Do some quick searching there to compare.

    How about:

    – build a house
    – grow a ZZ top beard
    – write a series of best selling novels
    – get a degree

All of those things could easily be accomplished before Verizon releases this freaking phone.
