Lagging Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat Updates Set to Roll Out

Lagging Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates are set to roll out despite the fact that Android 4.4.2 KitKat has been replaced by Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates in recent weeks.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update has been rolling out since January. And while the update has landed for many Galaxy Note 3 owners around the world, including in the United States, the roll out hasn’t finished up. There are still a number of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 users awaiting their upgrade to Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Fortunately, it looks like several of these lagging Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates will roll out in the month of July as carriers continue to point to this month as their release month.

The latest is Australian carrier Optus who today posted an updated version of its Android roll out schedule. The carrier says that it has finally completed testing on its Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates and that they should be rolling out in the coming days. In other words, those who own the the SM-N9005 and SM-N9007 on Optus will want to keep an eye out for an Android 4.4.2 KitKat prompt. A specific date is unknown but it’s clear that these two upgrades are going to roll out sometime this month.

Optus joins several other carriers who say that they’ll finally be pushing out Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates this month. Australian carriers Telstra and Vodafone claim that the updates will be out in July with Vodafone suggesting that the update is currently in testing, a sign that we could see a push in the imminent future.

Of course, these carriers are also lagging on Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates and sadly, they still haven’t offered any new details on its arrival. Keep in mind, the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat rolled out before the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update so it could be that Samsung is putting a priority on the Galaxy Note 3’s roll out, a roll out that has been going on for six months.

Optus’ Android 4.4.2 KitKat update will roll out just days after Samsung started pushing a new Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update that offers Galaxy S5 software features including Samsung Knox 2.0, Kids Mode and Download Booster. The update, which landed for T-Mobile users in June and for international users in the United Kingdom, is expected to spread to other international devices in the weeks ahead. It’s not clear if the features will land for these Aussie carriers.

These updates also come on the heels of Google’s Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat roll outs. In early June, Google pushed out an Android 4.4.3 KitKat update aimed at solving some of the issues that impacted Android users inside Android 4.4.2 KitKat. A short time later, Google pushed out Android 4.4.4 KitKat which comes with some additional security patches.

Android 4.4.3 KitKat is rumored for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE-A but we have not seen either update rumored for the Galaxy Note 3, despite the fact that many Galaxy Note 3 users are complaining about Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems. While users haven’t noticed any hero level issues, it’s clear that there are Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems aboard the Galaxy Note 3.

It’s also not clear if the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will get Android L in the days ahead. Android L is Google’s brand new Android update and one that is expected to arrive later this year alongside a new Nexus 8 tablet from HTC. Android L will replace Android 4.4 KitKat.

With the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 being less than a year old, there is a good chance that it will get Android L down the road. There is also a chance that the update could bring Galaxy Note 4 software features to the older model. The Galaxy Note 4 is expected to debut in September and replace the Galaxy Note 3 as the company’s flagship model.
