Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Release Hits Snag

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release continues to make progress behind the scenes though it appears that consumers could encounter some Galaxy Note Edge release date problems down the road.

On September 3rd, Samsung took the stage at its Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 launch event and introduced several new products including the Apple Watch competitor called Gear S, an iPhone 6 Plus competitor called Galaxy Note 4, and a device unlike any other that’s calling Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note Edge is the company’s new high-end version of the Galaxy Note that comes with a screen unlike anything Samsung has ever put on a Galaxy smartphone.

In addition to the bent display, Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge also includes a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16 Megapixel Rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. These features help to put it on par with the Galaxy Note 4 and it’s a device that consumers have their eyes on as we enter the fall. Thing is, we don’t have a Galaxy Note Edge release date.

The Galaxy Note Edge release date continues to make progress behind the scenes. Earlier this month, one Galaxy Note Edge variant passed through the FCC. We also recently spotted a Bluetooth certification for an international model and earlier today we told you about several Korea-bound Galaxy Note Edge variants that passed their Bluetooth certifications. While that news was all good, these new Galaxy Note Edge release details are bad.

UK retailer Clove today passed along some new Galaxy Note Edge details and they aren’t pretty. The retailer claims that the Galaxy Note Edge will not be available in the United Kingdom right off the bat, information that is says comes from its distribution channels.

When the Note Edge launches, there will not be UK stock available. It will not be available in the majority of European countries.

For those customers that are interested in purchasing the Note Edge, we will look to source non-UK stock. This means that, if possible, we will purchase the stock intended for one of the countries where the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is due to launch.

It’s not clear what other countries might be included here but what’s clear is that Galaxy Note Edge release problems have already begun ahead of an official Galaxy Note Edge release date announcement. And that’s not good for consumers looking to pick up a new flagship smartphone during the fall and better yet, during the holidays.

Furthermore, the retailer says that it still doesn’t know how much the Galaxy Note Edge will cost. It’s currently accepting Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders but it says that the Galaxy Note Edge price remains a mystery. Amazon Germany is charging nearly €1000 for the Galaxy Note Edge. Same goes for Dutch retailer Notebooksbilliger. Those prices are early price points and probably aren’t indicative of the real Galaxy Note Edge price.

It’s not clear how this affects the Galaxy Note Edge release date in the United States though it’s clear that there could be stock shortages here and around the world.

New Galaxy Note Edge release details from Yonhap News in Korea quote a Hyundai Securities analyst who says that while Samsung plans to ship 11 million units of the Galaxy Note 4, it might only ship 1 million units of the Galaxy Note Edge. The analyst believes that the low yield is due to the manufacturing difficulties that come with the Galaxy Note Edge’s display.

U.S. carriers have confirmed the Galaxy Note Edge for arrival but they still aren’t talking about the release date or the price and it’s not clear when those details will arrive.
