It appears that the Samsung Galaxy S III might not only be coming with Android as a new rumor pegs the company as possibly releasing a Galaxy S III type phone running Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 sometime during the fall of this year.

The new rumor comes from WP-Life who says that a trusted source has told them that the Galaxy S III that is scheduled to be launched on May 3rd might be coming to Windows Phone.

Samsung is rumored to be recycling the hardware and design and as of right now, the device is rumored to be called the Samsung Focus S II, a sequel to Samsung’s original Windows Phone device.

Galaxy S III With Windows Phone 8 Coming This Fall?

The Focus S could see a sequel.

Apparently, the changes that Microsoft is making in Windows Phone 8, also known as Windows Phone Apollo, will allow Samsung to bring the monster spec’d phone to Microsoft’s lineup.

These are the rumored specifications of the Samsung Focus S II:

  • Faster dual/quad core processor (depending on region)
  • 4.7-inch HD display
  • 12-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera
  • NFC capabilities
  • Dedicated camera button
  • Samsung Cloud Support
  • Improved Photo Studio
  • LTE support

None of that seems to be too out of the question so this is definitely a possibility. The design of the Windows Phone 8 Galaxy S III will apparently come with a few tweaks though.

First, there will be Windows Phone branding. Obviously. However, it ‘s also said to have a dedicated camera button and a difference in how the buttons will be laid out.

As for carriers, it’s rumored to be coming to AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.

AT&T is currently the only American carrier that offers a 4G LTE Windows Phone and Verizon has made it clear that it wants back in the Windows Phone market this year.

Samsung has been rumored to be releasing its new Windows 8 phones in October and this could very well be the first of those devices.

So, while this is unconfirmed, those who are Windows Phone enthusiasts might want to take a closer look at the device that is launched on May 3rd in London.

I have a Samsung Focus S and LOVE it… but I hate the name. It reminds me of a cheap, compact car. Surely, Samsung can come up with a better name for such a great phone…

It’s a bit unfortunate that Samsung lacks software support, I love how HTC and Nokia offer free turn by turn gps and map services.  I have both the Nokia Lumia 900 and Samsung Focus S, I would much prefer a Samsung but the sex appeal and gps on the Nokia is just too hard to pass up.
