Before CES 2013 and the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus, Samsung posted details about the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update, a sign that good things were likely on the way. That information has since been pulled but it appears that Samsung is still poised to roll out the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean upgrade in the next few weeks as it has confirmed that the firmware will arrive next month, at least in one region.

The company has confirmed the good news to CNET, saying the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update will be rolling out to owners in Singapore in February. Samsung did not confirm a specific date for owners of the Galaxy S2, only saying that the software would arrive in February.

The Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update will evidently begin next month.

And while the lack of specifics isn’t going to impress most owners, the fact that the company has finally disclosed a specific month is fantastic. We imagine that other regions will see the update roll out in the days and weeks afterward as well, all culminating in the Galaxy S2’s second birthday which will take place in May.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Galaxy S2 owners in the U.S. have a short wait ahead of them. In fact, American carriers are typically last to major Android upgrades and we could see the same happen here. So far, Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean updates have leaked out for select American device owners but that still isn’t a sound indication that roll outs are just over the horizon.

The update, when it does arrive, will take the internal memory down from 12GB to 11GB and it will roll out through Samsung Kies. Samsung Kies of course is Samsung’s software that allows owners to download software through their PC and that means that those with a Galaxy S2, again at least in Korea, shouldn’t be looking for an update to arrive Over-the-Air (OTA).

As for Android 4.1 itself, our favorite Android 4.1 features can be seen in the video below.

Samsung will be making some additions to its own hardware as well. There will be improved camera functionality, Pop-Up Play for video, and Easy Mode which is perfect for newcomers to the software.
