Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Updates Might Finish in February

Published

There are still some straggling Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates out there and we’re doing our best to track down information for those users still on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Today, we have a few more details to share regarding several of the missing Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 updates.

Android update information, particularly update information for Samsung Android updates, can be hard to track down. Most carriers remain silent about timing in an effort to temper expectations. Samsung itself rarely provides any specifics in regard to Android update release dates, probably for the same reason.

So, for many users, the past couple of months have been torture.

In November, Samsung started rolling out two major updates, the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates. Those followed the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update which landed in October. Over the next few weeks, Samsung and its carriers began to push out Android 4.3 and its Galaxy Gear support to Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 owners around the world. The updates finished rolling out in the United States back in December.

However, there are still several updates that haven’t rolled out yet. Some have faced delays, others seem to just be slow. We’ve been doing our best to hunt down the remaining updates and provide timing for users still looking for answers. Today, we have a few more updates for those still waiting on Android 4.3 to arrive.

French carrier SFR claims that its missing Samsung Galaxy S3 4G and Galaxy Note 2 4G Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates are now slated for January or February. This is actually a little worse than what the carrier initially said about the updates. Originally, they were slated for January, now it seems that there is a chance that they could come a little later.

Oddly enough, this timing lines up with the timing given by Australian carrier Optus. The carrier says that it will roll out the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update in late January or early February as well. It claims that the Galaxy S3 3G and Galaxy S3 4G Android 4.3 updates will land in February, no specific window given.

Another carrier we’ve kept our eye on is Australian carrier Telus. The carrier caused a bit of a storm in the Samsung update world due to a delayed Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update and because it still hasn’t announced a Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update. It recently rolled out Android 4.2.2 to its Galaxy S3.

Fortunately, the carrier says that it will issue updated timing sometime this week, a great sign for those still holding out hope.

Sadly, we haven’t been able to track down many other details about the rest of the missing Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, and even Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 updates because other carriers are less open about their plans.

From the looks of things, it may not be until February before Samsung wraps up these updates, much later than anyone probably anticipated after the start of the roll outs back in November.
