Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Update Roundup (Pt. 2)

on

Believe it or not, the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates are still rolling out to users around the world. We have been tracking as many missing updates as we can find and here, we breakdown the situation for those who are still meddling on Android 4.1 and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Back in July of last year, Google announced Android 4.3 Jelly Bean alongside the Nexus 7 2013. The update almost immediately rolled out for Google’s stable of Nexus smartphones and tablets. And while the road to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean was extremely short for some users, the journey to Android 4.3 has been a long and arduous one for others.

For many devices, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean represents far more than an incremental update. In the case of Samsung’s Galaxy devices, it brings support for its Galaxy Gear, it brings Samsung Knox for added security and it brings some of the newer software features found on the likes of the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4.

Samsung promised these updates to Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners in October though at the time, it did not say how long the roll out would take. And here we are.

While many Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates have landed for Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 owners, there are still some that are missing, some due to delays.

What’s even more incredible is that there are still some Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 updates that remain missing as well.

With all of that in mind, we want to take another look at everything we know about these missing Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, and Galaxy Nexus and fill in as many blanks as we possibly can.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

We’ll start with the most glaring omissions first. Yes, there still are some carriers out there that have yet to roll out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The Galaxy Nexus’ Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update was first announced all the way back in July and many believed that carriers would at least get the update out in 2013. Some, like Sprint, did. Others have yet to roll out their updates.

A trio of Australian carriers recently announced intentions to bring Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to the Galaxy Nexus. Vodafone’s Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 update has been awaiting its FOTA dates for some time now. The carrier says that it has completed testing so it’s not clear what’s holding up the OTA.

Optus approved its version of the Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update on February 14th and it says that the update will be rolling out in the coming weeks. It does not provide a specific date so it’s not clear when it will start pushing or when it will complete.

Finally, Telstra claims that its update is in testing. It said that its target release date was February 25th but we still haven’t seen any Galaxy Nexus owners report that the update is rolling out. Seems like it has hit a mysterious snag as well.

Of course, the situation could be a lot worse. The Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is also missing but the carrier has provided exactly zero details about its release. Gotta Be Mobile was told, back in 2013, that the update was still coming but the carrier has yet to provide a specific date.

A Verizon spokesman recently updated the situation, saying that he still doesn’t have a time frame to share just yet.

Samsung Galaxy S4

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update finished up in the United States back in December. The stragglers, which included Verizon, pushed the update live right in the thick of the holiday shopping season, bringing Galaxy Gear support to shoppers just in time.

Since then, we’ve seen a number of Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates push out though there are, by our count, still three major Android 4.3 updates that remain missing. And yes, they are all in Australia for some reason.

Telstra claimed several weeks ago that it has yet to receive the Galaxy S4 4G Android 4.4 KitKat update from Samsung. While its status may have changed since then, the carrier isn’t saying. So for now, users are simply left with a possible mid-March release date, one that certainly hasn’t been set in stone.

Optus recently updated its schedule and now says that the Galaxy S4 4G update that was delayed many weeks ago is on track for a release in early March. Again, things could be worse.

Vodafone literally just announced its Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S4 4G and says that the update’s testing has been scheduled. That means that it’s likely still a few weeks out.

We imagine that there are other Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 updates that remain missing though not every carrier is open with that information. Australian carriers in particular love to keep their user bases updated, for better or worse.

Samsung Galaxy S3

The bad news is that there are still some missing Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates missing. The good news is that we’re getting closer to the end.

Once again, two of the most glaring absentees are Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates from Australian carriers. U.S. updates completed back in December.

Earlier this week, Vodafone rolled out its Galaxy S3 3G Android 4.3 update putting the pressure on Telstra and Optus to do the same. Telstra claims that the update is in testing and should land in early March. Optus users are in even worse shape as it looks like the update was recently delayed due to a critical issue. The carrier now says to expect it in early-to-mid March.

We’re also hearing that ThreeUK, a carrier in the United Kingdom, has yet to roll out its update. The carrier recently suggested that was because of a critical issue that Samsung needed to fix. The carrier recently told one user that it still doesn’t have a date for the upgrade so it looks like the update is either unreleased or is rolling out extremely slow.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is in pretty good shape, from what we can tell. All of these carriers have pushed their Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates live and we haven’t been able to track down any other missing updates save for one.

ThreeUK owners claim that the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update remains missing for their device and it appears that the carrier still doesn’t have a release date to share. We imagine that the updates will roll out soon, considering Android 4.4 KitKat was just announced for the Galaxy Note 2 in the U.S. and in Poland but we can’t confirm that.
