Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy S6: Concept Compares Rumors & Reality
A brand new Samsung Galaxy S6 concept pulls in the latest round of Galaxy S6 rumors and brings them to life giving prospective 2015 Galaxy S buyers a look at what Samsung’s Next Best Thing could look like next to the Samsung Galaxy S5.
In the past month, Samsung Galaxy S6 rumors have emerged at a breakneck pace detailing everything from the launch date to the Galaxy S6 release date to the device’s list of specs. We’ve also heard a ton about the rumored Samsung Galaxy S6 design, a design that’s rumored to be very different from last year’s Galaxy S5 design.
While we wait for Samsung to announce its latest flagship smartphone, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to come up with a Galaxy S6 concept based on the latest credible rumors. This Galaxy S6 concept takes alleged Galaxy S6 design leaks, schematics and cases into account and brings the rumored Galaxy S6 from the rumor mill into reality.
We partnered with our good friend Martin Hajek to come up with this realistic take on Samsung’s next big smartphone release. This new Galaxy S6 concept may not come from Samsung itself but it’s real enough that it could certainly be passed off to unsuspecting consumers as the real Galaxy S6.
Galaxy Alpha vs. Galaxy S6 concept vs. Galaxy S5.
This new Galaxy S6 concept pulls in all of the Galaxy S6 design rumors that we’ve seen, from leaked cases to the alleged schematics. The final result is a sleek, realistic looking Galaxy S6 model that features a metal design, rounded iPhone 6-like edges, a 5.1-inch display, a camera sensor situated on the back middle of the device, and more.
Galaxy S6 vs. Galaxy S5
Our concept takes it a step further though. We’ve heard from many consumers who are debating between the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S5. In an effort to show just how the Galaxy S6 could look next to last year’s model, we partnered with Hajek to showcase exactly that: The rumored Galaxy S6 vs. Galaxy S5. We’ve also included the Galaxy Alpha, a device that also incorporates metal into its design.

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 does not come with a metal design. Instead, last year’s flagship utilizes a plastic design that features a prominent perforated back plate. While it was an upgrade over the Galaxy S4’s polycarbonate plastic design, the Galaxy S5’s plastic couldn’t stand up to the premium metal designs found on devices like the iPhone 6, iPhone 5s and HTC One series.
Our concept keeps the same 5-inch screen size though there are a few slight differences that align with current Galaxy S6 rumors. The Galaxy S6 is a little taller than the Galaxy S5 and a shade thinner. Galaxy S6 rumors have pointed to a design that’s around 7mm thin, similar to the iPhone 6 design that Apple introduced last year.
The Galaxy S6 concept also features a home button though rumors suggest that it will include one big change. While the Galaxy S5 uses a swipe-based fingerprint sensor, the Galaxy S6 fingerprint sensor is expected to be touch-based, similar to the Touch ID fingerprint sensor found on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s.
On the back of the Galaxy S6 is camera sensor that sticks out slightly due to optical image stabilization and the concept’s thin design. On the side of the camera module is a flash that also includes a heart rate sensor that can also check blood oxygen levels like the one found on the Galaxy Note 4. We’ve also included a front-facing camera. The Galaxy S6 is rumored to have an upgraded 5MP sensor.
There are a few other differences. The Samsung Galaxy S6 concept features a headphone jack that’s now placed down on the bottom of the device and a Micro USB port that is no longer covered with a water-proof flap. Galaxy S6 rumors claim that we will not see the same type of water-resistant design that Samsung offers on the Galaxy S5.
We’ve also included various sensors packed in above the display near the ear speaker and the location of volume buttons and power button are the same as the Galaxy S5’s keys.
Rumors continue to hint at a powerful successor to the Galaxy S5. While the design is a key component, the new Galaxy S is also expected to feature enhanced 2K resolution, a new Exynos 7 octo-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options, and Google’s new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system. Software leaks continue to hint at a toned down version of TouchWiz though the exact changes remain out of reach for the moment.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 launch date is expected to take place on March 1st at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, Spain. There, the company should outline all of the device’s specs and release date details in full. For now though, the Samsung Galaxy S5 reigns as the company’s flagship alongside the Galaxy Note 4.

Metal cases SUCK bad. Hate them! They scratch & worst of all they dent! & they are heave! Don’t know why anyone would want one or who thought it was a good idea, but WRONG!

Why does it have massive upper and lower bezels? I know people complain about having to swipe for the fingerprint, but the tradeoff is really small bezels and a comparatively large screen. I’d much rather swipe my fingerprint and have a nice clean design with small bezels like the Note 4 verses having large bezels to accomodate a fingerprint scanner that doesn’t make you swipe. If you look at the Note 4 side by side with the iPhone 6 plus, for example, you’ll see what I’m talking about.
