Galaxy S6 Release Date (US): What Buyers Can Expect Now

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S6 release date in the United States is set for this Friday. With the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge releases in sight, we take a look at what buyers in the United States can expect from the Galaxy S6 release on April 10th and beyond.

In March, Samsung took the stage to announce its brand new Galaxy S6 flagship. The Galaxy S6 will actually be coming in two different variants, a regular model and a curved Galaxy S6 Edge that features a unique display. The two devices will take over the flagship role from the Samsung Galaxy S5 and take on top devices like the HTC One M9, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus.

Samsung’s two flagship models come with some attractive features including a new design language based on glass and metal, Quad HD displays that offer striking resolution, upgraded cameras with Optical Image Stabilization, tons of storage options, three colors including gold, several different price points, and a ton of US carriers. Samsung has reportedly received over 20 million pre-orders, already, for its two devices.

On Friday, Samsung and its carrier partners will stock their shelves with the Galaxy S6, giving those that didn’t pre-order the opportunity to upgrade. As many of you know, smartphone releases can be a little confusing, especially releases as large as the Samsung Galaxy S6 release. There’s a ton of information out there and lots of little details to keep track of.

We recently put together a roundup of all of the most important things you need to know about the Galaxy S6 release date in the United States. Today, we want to change gears and take a look at a few things that we expect from the Galaxy S6 release date in the United States. This outline will help set your expectations for Friday’s release and the weeks that follow.

Smooth Galaxy S6 Release Date

Before we get to the distant future, we want to start with the imminent future and Friday’s Galaxy S6 release date. Friday is a big day for Android enthusiasts and those looking to buy a new smartphone and it’s our goal to help you get as prepared as possible for the Galaxy S6 release. So keep all of this advice in mind as we inch closer.

The first thing to expect is a smooth Galaxy S6 release date. What we mean is that we do not expect to see an iPhone-style release complete with lines and various degrees of chaos. You should be able to order a Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge online without any troubles. And those of you that wish to order in-store shouldn’t run into any difficulties either.

Most Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge variants have held their ground during the pre-order process so we’re not expecting to see crowds or people trying to sell their place in line or their devices outside of retail locations. You should expect to be able to walk in and buy a white or black Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge model of your choosing.

No Sell Out

To add to that, do not expect the Samsung Galaxy S6 or Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge to sell out any time soon. Pre-orders are still live through all five major US carriers and shipping dates haven’t moved at retailers like Amazon.

What this means is that you should expect to have time to prepare. We’ve put together a list of Galaxy S6 release date tips that will help you do just that. There is no reason to rush into the Galaxy S6 pre-orders or Galaxy S6 release date. Take your time. We expect these devices to remain in stock and on shelves for the next year at least.

Most Pre-Orders to Arrive Early

If you pre-ordered the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge from AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile, expect your pre-order to arrive early if it hasn’t already. All three carriers are currently shipping their versions of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge and we expect most early orders to arrive ahead of their April 10th street date on Friday. If you pre-ordered, now is a great time to check in on your pre-order status, especially if you plan to be out of the house today, tomorrow, or Friday.

Don’t expect all Galaxy S6 pre-orders to arrive early though. Verizon and U.S. Cellular, as far as we know, haven’t started shipping their devices out yet which means that some of you will probably be waiting until Friday for them to arrive.

Same goes for retailers like Amazon. Amazon typically ships its devices out one to two days before the release date itself so we expect to see those orders move out starting tomorrow.

Gold Galaxy S6 Release Date

The gold Galaxy S6 release has hit some speed bumps in the United States. AT&T and T-Mobile still aren’t selling several gold Galaxy S6 variants, Verizon’s gold Galaxy S6 shipping dates have been pushed into May, Sprint still isn’t listing the gold models on its website, and some variants remain missing at retailers like Amazon. Here’s what we expect from the gold Galaxy S6 release dates in the US.

First, we expect AT&T and T-Mobile to start taking orders for the remaining models in the near future. It could take a few days or even a few weeks but we’d be surprised if they failed to start taking orders for these devices in April.

Second, we expect Verizon to get at least some of these gold Galaxy S6 pre-orders out before their listed availability dates. Last year, Verizon listed ridiculously long wait times for the iPhone 6 Plus, only to get orders out in a timely fashion. So, you shouldn’t be too intimidated by its May availability dates. We expect devices to show up a little earlier than what’s listed.

We also expect retailers like Amazon and Best Buy to take orders for all gold variants in the near future. Once carriers get their kinks worked out, we should see devices like the gold Verizon Galaxy S6 appear at retailers. This will be crucial to those that have Best Buy points or Amazon gift cards and also to those looking to score deals in the future.

MetroPCS Galaxy S6 Release Date

Boost Mobile, a Sprint MVNO, will release the Galaxy S6 on Friday. Cricket Wireless and MetroPCS, two popular carriers in the United States, will also carry the regular Galaxy S6 model though it’s still not clear when they will release it.

While these dates are still missing in action, we assume that the releases probably won’t be too far off the pace, if they’re even off the pace at all. We’d be really surprised if these carriers failed to get the Galaxy S6 out during the month of April. Smaller carriers tend to lag on major smartphone releases but only by a few weeks. Don’t expect these Galaxy S6 releases to drag into the summer.

Tons of Retail Options

Retailers haven’t been making a huge fuss out of the Galaxy S6 release but that doesn’t mean that plans have changed. No, the Galaxy S6 will be available at a ton of different retailers in the coming days and you should expect to see some of them offer some incentives. Walmart, for instance, typically offers small price cuts right from the start.

Best Buy, Amazon, Target, Walmart, Costco and Sam’s Club will all stock the Galaxy S6. Amazon is taking pre-orders online. Best Buy is taking them in its stores and online. And Walmart is currently taking Galaxy S6 pre-orders in its stores. If you don’t want to buy through a carrier, you’re going to have a ton of options at your disposal. We recommend taking a look at them all before deciding on where to buy.

Few Galaxy S6 Price Cuts

Do not expect the Galaxy S6 or the Galaxy S6 Edge to hit the bargain bin immediately after their release. These are flagship phones, popular flagship phones at that, and we don’t expect to see anyone slash their prices any time soon.

We’d expect deals to start popping up a few weeks after the initial release date. Amazon, Walmart, and T-Mobile have been known to offer early deals to entice consumers.

Carrier deals are usually a little more scarce than retailer deals post-release. For instance, the AT&T and Verizon Galaxy S5 variants both sat at $199.99 for the past year while Amazon was selling it for $99 or less. Be sure to keep an eye out though if you’re looking to shave a little bit of cash off the up front cost of the phone without a trade-in or mail-in rebate.

More Galaxy S6 Colors

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge come in three colors: White, Black, and Gold. There are also two other colors that won’t be available on release day: A green version of the Galaxy S6 Edge and a blue version of the Galaxy S6.

We would expect someone at some point to stock these colors. We wouldn’t be surprised if the colors came weeks, maybe even months after the initial release, after supply strain has died down. We also wouldn’t be surprised if one or both colors were exclusive to a carrier or retailer in the United States. Samsung has a tendency to do this.

More Galaxy S6 Accessories

You’ll see a ton of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge accessories available on day one. You just won’t see all of them. Expect 2015 to be littered with Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge accessory releases.

Samsung’s flagship smartphones typically feature a robust accessory ecosystem and we don’t expect anything different here with the Galaxy S6. What this means is that you don’t have to settle. If you don’t find what you want, wait a few weeks or a few months, and you’ll almost certainly have more options at your disposal.

Another Galaxy S6 Release Date

Finally, expect there to be another Galaxy S6 release date.

Yesterday, Japanese site Blog of Mobile spotted the AT&T Galaxy S6 Active lurking on Bluetooth SIG. The filing, for the SM-G890A, didn’t confirm a release date but it means that the Galaxy S6 Active has taken another step toward a release inside the United States. Another leak from SamMobile seems to hint at the same thing.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active will reportedly feature a 5.1 inch Quad-HD 2560 x 1440 (2K) display, an 8-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of on-board storage and a 16-megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front-facing camera.

Galaxy S6 IR Blaster

Rumors suggest that it will come with a much larger 3,500 mAh battery and an IP67 certification that will make it water and dust resistant like the Galaxy S5. A more recent rumor suggests that it will come with a microSD card slot, another feature that the Galaxy S6 doesn’t have.

Galaxy S6 Active release date rumors have pointed to an arrival this summer though with a Bluetooth filing under its belt, an announcement from Samsung could come at any time.

This device is almost certainly real and you should expect new information to arrive in the weeks after the initial release. We don’t expect to hear anything official until Samsung’s initial Galaxy S6 release has come and gone.
