Galaxy S8 vs Galaxy S7: What Buyers Need to Know

Battery Life

Battery Life

Battery life is an increasingly important aspect of any smartphone. A prime example is the Galaxy S6 from 2015. It had a tiny 2,550 mAh battery that simply didn't last long enough. The Galaxy S7 however, has a big 3,000 mAh battery and the S7 Edge was even bigger at 3,600 mAh. They lasted far longer, and were more than enough for most users.

After the Galaxy Note 7 incident this will be a big area for Samsung. As a result there's now an 8-point battery inspection and tons of testing. The Galaxy S8 will not explode and catch fire like the Note 7. So buy with confidence.

However, Samsung was a little more cautious here than expected, but it's understandable. As a result the huge 5.8-inch Galaxy S8 has the same 3,000 mAh battery as the Galaxy S7. We were hoping to 3,200 or so, but that simply isn't the case. That said, the processor is extremely efficient (more so than past generation jumps) the display uses less parts and is thinner and more efficient, as is the software. Samsung is confident in suggesting battery life will be the same or better. So that's not a concern, there's just no noticeable increase from the S7 to S8.

If you want more battery life, the Galaxy S8+ has a bigger 3,500 mAh pack.
