Game Center Coming To Macs in OS X Mountain Lion

Published

on

Amongst all the new OS X Mountain Lion news today, this particular aspect of the update caught my attention. In addition to bringing iOS elements like iMessages, Notification Center, and AirPlay to the Mac platform, Mac owners also get Game Center.

This will connect up with Game Center on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch allowing users to play with friends on Macs. Literally. Not only will Game Center show leaderboards, but users will be able to find people for multiplayer games and chat, via voice, while in some games.

The social aspect of casual games is growing in importance thanks to Facebook and Game Center, so bringing this functionality to Macs is a big deal.

Plus, how cool will it be to play games with people across platforms? You’re not restricted to people just on their computers or just on their iPhones/iPads. Everyone can play together.

The lucky folks who got a sneak peek of head-to-head gaming on a Mac and an iPad were suitably impressed.

You can bet game developers will work double time to make their games compatible with OS X ML and Game Center. If your favorites aren’t already on the Mac they may be soon.

OS X Mountain Lion will be out this summer. Click over to Notebooks.com for more information on all the new features.
