Go Vote and Get Free Coffee at Starbucks

Published

on

image My wife and I went to Starbucks last night to grab a little peace and quiet. While waiting for our coffee, the barista told us to be sure and come back after we voted on Tuesday and get a free tall coffee. All you have to do is tell them who voted!

Now – Go Vote!!

Bummer. Turns out this isn’t actually legal. Makes sense though I guess.

dant: It’s not legal to give away coffee? I was there this morning. Didn’t even have to say I voted (though I did point to my sticker). Just asked for my free coffee and I got it. I’d go back again after work, but I want to sleep early and wake up to the wonderful election results.

Sorry, heard a snippet about this on NPR on the way to work and didn’t get all the details. Here’s some more info…

It’s not legal in Wa state. State law says nothing of value can change hands as incentive to either vote or not vote. It’s not legal for them to ask if we voted, so they are giving everyone here a cup of coffee.
    mmm, free coffee.
