Google Music Works on iPad and iPhone (Video)

Published

on

Google Music may be aimed at Android users, but that doesn’t mean Google is leaving iPad and iPhone owners out in the cold. The Google Music service works great on the iPad and iPhone, without the need for an app. The Google Music for iPad and iPhone site works so well you can even use the built in media controls and play the music in the background.

Google Music on iPad

We were surprised by how well Google Music works on the iPad and iPhone given Amazon’s crappy iPad implementation of their Cloud Player. To use Google Music on your iPhone or iPad, visit music.google.com from your browser and then choose the music you want to play. It’s that easy. You can use the built-in controls with a double tap of the home button or the music bar at the bottom of the app. You’ll definitely want to rely on the music controls built into the iPad if you can because the navigation bar can be a bit tricky to use. For quicker access, bookmark Google Music and set it as a shortcut on your homescreen.

Google Music is harder to use on the iPhone, sometimes requiring multiple taps to start playing, but your experience may vary and it won’t scroll correctly for some users. Hopefully this will improve over time.

The Google Music experience on the iPad and iPhone isn’t as good as a dedicated app, like on the Android, but it is great news for iOS owners who made it into the Google Music Beta. Check out our hands on with Google Music for more information as well as our editorial asking if we really need a cloud music service like Google Music.

Of course is going to work on the IPad but is internet base so matter what device or equipment you are using is going to work as long you have internet. The feature to sink your music through the clouds so you don’t have to download music to your sd card. Just saying…

I’m fairly certain that video is fake. Why? Because I’m on Google Music and have tried using the site in both Safari and Browser (the app the video maker is using) on the original iPad, and you can’t even scroll through tracks, much less play them. The UI controls *work* — the track name and length appears, the play button switches to pause, even the “currently playing” EQ icon next to the song title appears — but the track itself doesn’t play and the progress bar doesn’t move. It certainly doesn’t start playing in the OS’s sound bar. And, as I say, you can’t scroll up and down on the page.

If it doesn’t work in Mobile Safari, it wouldn’t work in any other browser on iOS anyway, as they’re all based on the same WebKit engine. (And whichever one plays back Flash content *only* plays back Flash video, so far as I know.)
Plus the tracks he’s playing seem to be for a band he’s either in or friends with, based on his YouTube channel.

So from what I can tell, this is some sort of silly hoax.

Edited to add: I tried using different user agents in Browser as well. If you try anything other than Mobile Safari (and its variations) GMusic tells you you need to install Flash for the site to work. So that doesn’t work either.
