GottaBeFunded: gTar is an iPhone Powered Guitar Tutor

Published

on

The gTar is a new iPhone music accessory that teaches  guitar fundamentals while doubling as an electronic instrument.

The gTar looks like a cross between an electric guitar and an Rock Band guitar with an iPhone dock on the body, just below the strings. When paired with an iPhone, the gTar teaches users how to play songs by lighting up LEDs on the fret board.

The app starts out slowly, though. On easy mode, users only need to play the correct string. Medium mode makes users actually press down on the frets, but compensates for missed notes. Hard mode doesn’t compensate, and makes the player hit every note correctly.

The app does limit users to a small selection of songs, but the catalog is growing every week . Backers that pledge at least $599 can even request other songs for the catalog.

The gTar does much more than teach songs, however. The iPhone app also offers a number of effects and sounds, making it a true electronic instrument. The guitar interface creates a new way to create electronic music, one that is likely more comfortable for many musicians.

Incident, the team behind the gTar, hope to raise at least $100,000 to create the gTar. The project has brought in $30,000 so far. Fundraising ends on June 25, which leaves plenty of time to raise the remaining goal. The backing prices are steep compared to most Kickstarter projects, however, with the Limited Early Bird Tier starting at $350. That tier only has 200 available slots. The next tier has a limit of 500 backers and costs $399, with the standard tier running $450.
