Published

on

GTA Online is almost here and while many gamers are still crawling through the massive story mode as a single player, the GTA 5 universe is about to get crowded on October 1st when GTA Online launches.

GTA 5 brought in over a billion dollars already, and with new in-game purchases that can unlock GTA 5 in-game cash the company could be rolling in even more real world cash.

Thanks to a GTA Online gameplay video we already know a lot about the online version of GTA 5 that will let us team up with friends and strangers for a GTA 5 map filled with real players who can gun you down and grab your cash and cars, albeit with consequences.

The GTA Online gameplay video below highlights many of the cool new features, but Rockstar issued a new set of GTA Online details today in a blog post.

GTA Online or Grand Theft Auto Online, allows gamers to run around the GTA 5 Los Santos map in world that takes place before the GTA 5 story mode.

The GTA Online gameplay will arrive as part of a free update for the GTA 5 games on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. If analyst chatter of GTA 5 on PS4 and Xbox One comes true next year, expect to see it bundled in.

You Can Pay for in Game Cash

The GTA Online experience will include the opportunity to spend your real cash for in-game cash. Micro transactions are officially part of the GTA Online experience, which could anger some gamers who were already upset that Rockstar included special in-game items to gamers who bought the special edition of GTA 5.

Here’s RockStar’s official statement on GTA Online micro-transactions, without any details on how much $10 of real world cash will get you in-game.

“You can either quickly accumulate cash through profitable activities like knocking over armored cars, winning street races, doing stick-ups or a host of other cash-making endeavors – or if you’re the completely instant gratification type, you can choose to buy denominations of GTA$. You will have the option to purchase GTA$ through the in-game Store. The game and its economy have been designed and balanced for the vast majority of players who will not buy extra cash. There is no in-game paywall and nothing that should disrupt the balance of the game. You don’t have to spend real money to attain the cars, guns, clothes, flash and style of a high-roller in Los Santos, but can if you wish to get them a little quicker.”

The money you earn in the GTA 5 single player mode will not transfer to GTA Online, so you won’t need to spend the next week grinding through missions to earn cash for your online GTA experience.

Be ready for Some Issues

This is a new experience for Rockstar so be ready for some issues. This isn’t Rockstar’s first online experience, but the company is shifting the GTA Online experience from a handful of internal testers to the millions of gamers so there could be issues.

When EA launched SimCity this summer they ran into server issues that brought gameplay to a halt, so lets hope Rockstar can get past this issue.

Rockstar says, “We hope it will all run incredibly smoothly, but please bear with us if it doesn’t, and help us fix any and all problems!”

Crime and Chaos Welcome

While in the GTA Online world, gamers can go crazy knocking over convenience stores, armored cars and many other side missions like we’ve run into while playing in the story mode.

Open world, open to crime.

Players can also steal cars and kill other GTA Online gamers, but there is a price to pay for these actions. In addition to a bad reputation, gamers you kill can put a bounty on you.

If you want to relax, you can turn on passive mode and avoid being gunned down, that is until you fir your weapon.

Missions are Also Available

The GTA Online universe will also feature missions and heists that players can plan and take part in. Heists are one of the best parts of GTA 5, bringing together the three main characters, so it will be fun to team up with friends for online heists.

These missions will include a the ability to take down targets alone or as a team, so even those lone wolf gamers can enjoy some more missions after beating GTA 5.

Racing and Sports on Day One

The GTA Online gameplay video showed off sports like Golf and Tennis as well as races through Los Santos and Blaine County. These will be available when the game arrives on October 1st. Rockstar describes the GTA Online races as,

“Everything from classic street competition and off-road tracks to boat racing on the open ocean, or take to the skies in aerial events. Jump into the madness of a GTA Race, or try out a brand new race type, Rally, where driver and co-pilot work together to navigate treacherous courses at high speeds.”

While playing Tennis or Golf, passive mode is turned on, so you won’t have to worry about a sniper or a renegade drive interrupting your backhand.

New Modes, Vehicles and Heists Coming Fast

The GTA Online experience arrives on October 1st, but it’s not the end of it. Rockstar is already working on new missions, vehicles and gameplay experiences. Here’s what’s already in the works.

  • The Content Creator: The Content Creator will launch with tools to tailor and publish your own Deathmatches & Races.
  • The Beach Bum Pack: Featuring 4 new amazing beach fun vehicles, over 300 new items of incredible down tempo leisure wear and 2 new but not remotely relaxing weapons.
  • Capture the Flag: GTA Online’s take on the classic CTF mode including the ability to make your own using The Content Creator.
  • Heists: This update will introduce full-on cooperative Heist missions that will require careful planning, teamwork and sharp execution – along with the Heist Planning Board for your apartment.

These updates are free, so you can save your cash for in-game currency. There is no GAT Online content release date available yet, but we’ll hear more soon from the sounds of it.

RockStar Wants Your Feedback

GTA Online is a growing and expanding universe and Rockstar wants to make it something that you, the gamer, enjoys for the long term.

If there are things you love, tell Rockstar about it. If there are things about GTA Online that make you want to log off and go back to playing on a Nintendo Wii U, tell Rockstar about it. They say, feed back is, “vital for the ongoing success of the game.”

I actually do play on my Wii U. I swear Nintendo consoles have been great for flirting with girls, ever since the original DS.

Oh, and GTA Online, if it truly is an MMO (which I am doubting) would be the greatest thing ever, hands down. The box says 16 players, so I am already depressed. CTF will be fun and all that, but an MMO would be extraordinary.

I think your hopes are way too high man this console generation just doesn’t have the power to run an mmo gta. Case and point GTA V has been known to crash older xbox 360 models. I for one am just shocked there are no load screens.
