First, take some time to find out whether your television has 4K Ultra HD technology or whether it’s capable of 720P or 1080P.

The Xbox One S supports gaming at 1080P and movies at 4K. The Xbox One X supports gaming at 4K and movies in 4K. The original Xbox One only supports 1080p for gaming and movies.

One of the biggest things you’ll need to account for is sound. Many monitors don’t have speakers, and if they do, you won’t want to rely on them for any online gaming encounters. You can connect external speakers to the Xbox One’s optical out port to get sound. You can also plug any headphones you have laying around into a Xbox One controller an get sound that way. The best way is to invest in Xbox One headphones.

Next connect the other end to the HDMI port on your display. Monitors should begin working immediately, but televisions may need to be turned to their INPUT channels to work. How you get your TV to INPUT depends on its make and model. Refer to the manual that came with your television if you don’t know how.

I just purchased an XBox One last week to play on my Asus VS229H Monitor it’s 1080p has DVI and HDMI. I also use my TurtleBeach X12 headset.

My issue is that when my pals & I try to play together the party chat doesn’t work for me – I can hear xbox games and I can hear my pals but they can’t hear me. So, 2 out of 3 audio work, only my mic doesn’t work. I get the orange text in the party area that says xbox can’t find my mic. My headset works perfectly fine and I’ve never had any issues with the mic. I’ve gone through every audio setting I can find and it just won’t work. Have I missed something?

XBox does not offer any display or trouble shooting options for headsets or mics. So, I even called in to XBox and they could not offer any solutions beyond what I already did, go thru all the audio settings to dbl check and check for updates. After over an hour of trying to help XBox gave up and told me to just return it.

I did hear about some June 2015 update that screwed a lot of things up including for the headsets. So, XBox needs to inform the public on what and when they plan to offer an update fix on the issue because a net search reveals that there are loads of other people having the same issues.

Surely Microsoft, a computer software company, isn’t stupid enough to make COMPUTER monitors or headsets incompatible as that would be pathetic (actually they would). Surely, it’s not an issue with the headphone jack on Asus monitors because I tried two different Asus monitors and got the same problem again. If that is the case, I will return the brand new XBox One and trade it for a PS4.

I could never have imagined such trouble just trying to use my headset. Thanks XBox for making this about as difficult as possible.

I have the exact same problem. If you have an adapter they don’t work just buy an updated controller.

It also depends on the monitor you have, not all monitors have HDMI support and such , so if you buy a monitor specifically for XBOX One you should take precautions and make sure that it actually can support it.

My monitor doesn’t have a HDMI port, but my PC does. Does that make a difference if my PC has it but my monitor doesn’t? What do I do now since my monitor doesn’t have a HDMI port? I plugged my HDMI cable into the PC, but I’m guessing it won’t pop up on my monitor.
