How to Create an Apple ID

Published

on

Apple devices such as the iPod, iPhone and iPad all use an Apple ID. The Apple ID is important for everything from iMessage to downloading apps. Setting up an Apple ID is a fairly easy process that allows the user to get the most out of their iOS device. While there are several ways to set up an Apple ID, this guide will focus on how to do it though Apple’s website. A question that we get a lot about Apple ID’s is whether a family can share one Apple ID. While an Apple ID will work with multiple devices it is best to have an Apple ID for each member of your family. The reasoning behind this is that the apps, music, and all other content purchased with each Apple ID syncs across devices. This means that apps purchased on an iPhone with someones Apple ID would then be synced with an iPad signed into the same id. To keep all of your family’s apps and music in order the best way is to have an Apple ID for each family member that has an iOS device.

How to create an Apple ID

First, visit Apple’s website to start setting up a new Apple ID. It is important to note that if you already have an Apple ID but forgot your password or need to change any other settings tap Manage your Apple ID instead of create. To get started with your new Apple ID select Create an Apple ID.Create an Apple ID

On the next page the user should input information such as name, email and password. Be sure that for the Apple ID the email address provided is accessible and not just a dummy email address. When creating a password make it 8 characters or more, a mixture of upper and lowercase letters and a number. That being said, keep this password handy because, often for purchasing apps or downloading music, the app store requires the user to enter it. It is important to make it something that, while meeting the above criteria, is also easy to remember.

Another important step in the Apple ID process is adding a recovery email address. This allows Apple to send account reset information to another email if you would lose access to that email. After entering all the proper fields on the setup page Select Create Apple ID.

After the page loads the Apple ID will finish up and an email confirming the new Apple ID is in your account. Check your email and click on the link that Apple sends to verify the email address. Also check the recovery email account as it will have a link as well.
