How to Easily Delete Cydia Tweaks

Published

on

If you have a jailbroken iPhone and have discovered that you can’t delete Cydia tweaks as easily as you can uninstall regular apps, here’s how to get around that and easily delete Cydia tweaks with little effort.

When uninstalling regular apps, all you have to do is tap and hold down on the app until the app icons begin wiggling. From there, you can tap on the small X icon to remove the app completely. It’s a task that takes less than five seconds.

However, with Cydia tweaks and apps, uninstalling them is a bit different, and it takes a considerable amount of effort to delete Cydia tweaks. You have to open up Cydia and then view your list of installed tweaks. From there, you have to find the tweak that you want to uninstall and then you can uninstall it. It’s a bit cumbersome to say the least.

The good news is that there are easier methods, and there’s a specific Cydia tweak that you can install that makes it easier to delete Cydia tweaks, almost exactly like how you would uninstall any other regular app from your iPhone.

Without further ado, here’s how to easily delete Cydia tweaks from your iPhone with very little effort.

Easily Delete Cydia Tweaks

Before you can begin to uninstall Cydia tweaks the easy way, you first need to install a specific Cydia tweak that will allow you to do this in the first place.

The tweak is called CyDelete8, and it works with the latest iOS 8.4 jailbreak. To install it, go into Cydia and tap Search in the lower-right corner. Type in “CyDelete8” in the search box and the tweak should pop up in the results. Tap on it and then select Install at the top-right corner to install the tweak.

You’ll then need to restart the springboard, but once that’s done, you’ll be good to go.

At this point, if there’s a Cydia tweak that you want to uninstall, it works just like any other app. Simply tap and hold on the app icon until it begins to jiggle. From there, tap on the small X icon and confirm the deletion of said Cydia tweak. It’ll instantly be removed from your home screen.

The only downside to this tweak is that it will only allow you to delete Cydia tweaks that come with app icons that appear on your home screen. Since many apps don’t come with app icons (but rather just their own section in Settings), CyDelete8 doesn’t work for every Cydia tweak.

This means that if there’s a Cydia tweak that doesn’t come with a home screen app icon, you’ll need to delete the tweak the old-fashioned way by going into Cydia and removing it from there.

However, there’s another Cydia tweak called PrefDelete that allows you to delete any tweak through the Settings pane. This works if a certain Cydia tweak doesn’t have a home screen app icon and can only be accessed through the Settings app.

By tapping and holding on a tweak listed in the Settings pane, a prompt will appear that will allow you to uninstall the Cydia tweak instantly without having to go into Cydia and delete the tweak from there.

If you want the best of both worlds, perhaps PrefDelete is the better tweak to have, although it doesn’t officially support iOS 8.4 just yet, but that should arrive soon enough. There are still a handful of Cydia tweaks that have yet to be updated for iOS 8.4, but most popular Cydia tweaks are working fine with the latest version of iOS, so more likely than not, you’ll come across Cydia tweaks that work just fine on your jailbroken iPhone.
