How To Find Google Now on Your Desktop with Chrome Browser
A few weeks ago Google announced that it would be making Google Now available for all desktop and laptop users running the Chrome browser. As is typical with these roll outs not everyone saw the new feature at once. Today it rolled out in my mobile office. Google Now displays information you need in a card like interface. Mobile users will be familiar with the cards that can provide you with travel information, birthdays, appointments, flight info, spots scores, the weather and more. The new feature first appeared in Chrome betas in February.
Essentially the new feature allows users to receive those same or similar alerts on their desktops if they are logged into Chrome. Depending on whether you are using a Mac or a Windows PC you’ll find the notifications in the Google Notification Center at the top or bottom of your screen. On a Mac it appears at the top. On a Windows PC on the bottom.
Click on the notification icon (it’s bell shaped) and you’ll see cards displayed. You can configure what notifications you wish to receive or not by hitting the settings gear. You can also turn off the notifications by clicking on the bell with a slash through it. If you want to dismiss notifications en masse you can hit the diagonal hamburger icon and the cards will slide out of you view. You can close any single notification by clicking on the X in the card.
Google notes that some of the information is based on the location services on your mobile phone, so if your desktop and your smartphone happen to be in two different locations you might see different information.
