This way, important topics or trending hashtags will show up right on your Instagram feed without looking for them.

We saw hints of new features like this earlier in the year, but in December Instagram made it official. Giving users new ways to discover photos, video, people or other trending topics. Whether you’re constantly searching a hashtag to follow the latest news, or just like keeping up with your favorite NFL team, this makes it easier than ever.

Throughout 2017 Instagram added a lot of neat new features to its social network. From hiding photos or video to an archive, saving live videos, and now following hashtags. It’s basically just as simple as following a friend or any other account. That said, our quick video below will show you how.

How to Follow Hashtags on Instagram

If you’re interested in following a hashtag on Instagram it’s actually really simple. You search, find, and tap the big blue “follow” button at the top just like anything else on Instagram. That said, if you’re new to the social sharing site, here’s a more detailed set of instructions.

Instructions

  • Open Instagram on your phone or tablet
  • Tap the magnifying glass Search button near the bottom left of the screen
  • Type “#” and the word/topic you want to follow, we typed #Packers
  • Hit enter or search to find that hashtag topic
  • Tap the big blue Follow # button near the top

That’s all you have to do. Now, hit home and go back to your regular Instagram feed full of all your friends, family, or people you follow. Next, swipe down from the top of the page to refresh your feed. You’ll instantly see results inside your Instagram of the hashtag you’re now following.

You can also tap any hashtag in a post or comment to view that hashtag. Then, click the same follow button at the top.

Additionally, each hashtag page also shows related content or similar tags, so it’s easy to find and follow a bunch in a matter of seconds. Be careful though, you’ll quickly overload your timeline if you follow popular topics.

In closing, this basically lets you follow any hashtag topic instead of an individual person or page on Instagram. As a result, you’ll get far more content to scroll through. Letting people discover more photos, videos, people, places, and everything else you’ll ever find on Instagram. While you’re here, find out how to upload multiple photos at once, or how to turn off comments on your Instagram posts.
