Nintendo, the world-famous Japanese video game maker, is responsible for dozens of gaming’s most popular titles. Mario, Metroid, Zelda are all franchises that owe their existence to Nintendo and to the many video game consoles that it’s produced over the years. Until fairly recently, buying a Nintendo game certainly meant that you needed to have a Nintendo-made console to play it on. That’s still the case today, but video game emulators are changing that a bit. nds4ios is a very popular, iPhone, iPad and iPod app that lets users skip buying new hardware and acts as way to play Nintendo DS games on the iPhone and more.

Apps run great on IOS 7.1.1 on the iPhone 5s.

Here’s how to play Nintendo DS games on the iPhone running iOS 8.4 and using nds4ios.

Before we begin, there’s some important things for you to know. First, no matter what way you look at it, playing Nintendo DS games on iPhone instead of Nintendo’s hardware means that you’re going to have to break some rules. Strictly speaking, Nintendo has a right to do whatever it can to block its software from being available in other places. Second, you’re going to have to acquire nds4ios outside of the iTunes App Store, which means you’ll be playing outside Apple’s walled, but safe garden.

Head here to download the NDS4iOS directly from its website. You can’t get it directly through the iTunes Store since Apple doesn’t allow apps that can violate copyright protection through its certification process.

Some emulators require that you jailbreak your iPhone so that you can make software changes to it. Don’t worry, NDS4iOS doesn’t. The developer is using a loophole in Apple’s policy for corporate applications to get the app to download to devices running iOS. This loophole only works for as long as Apple leaves it open for nds4ios to exploit.

Tap the Install button on the NDS4iOS BuildStore entry subscription so that you can register your device and get access to nd4iOS. Fill in the sign up information if you don’t have an account already.

Once signed up, you’ll need to register your iOS device with the service.

nds4iOS (2)

Tap the menu button at the top of your screen. Now tap Register This. Now tap to begin the registration process.

Tap on More Details.

Tap on Install.

nds4iOS (6)

Tap the menu in the top-right of your screen and go to the Applications Store. Look for NDS4iOS.

Now you’ll be prompted for a $9.99 purchase to download the app to your iPhone, iPad or Android tablet. This is unavoidable and you’ll need to pay through PayPal to get the app.

nds4ios recommends IPA Installer for installing apps outside the iTunes App Store. Best Cydia Tweaks offers the software here. Now that you’ve taken care of the actual NDS4iOS installation you’ll need to procure some games to play with it.

By default NDS4iOS won’t come with all the games you want. Instead, you’ll need to download each game or what’s called a ROM from various sources. The most responsible thing to do is to copy the files you need from games that you already own. Unofficially, you can download NDS roms from Coolrom.com directly to your iPhone.

Now you’ll need to move those files to the appropriate folder after opening them. IZip Pro works for this just fine and it actually is available in the iTunes App Store. CoolRom recommends iFile. You wan to put the file in this folder: /var/mobile/Applications/nds4ios.

Now you’re all done. Again, be absolutely sure that you’re comfortable with downloading cracked files and spending time on setup instead of having the convenience of just purchasing the game for your Nintendo DS.

Also know that you’re playing Nintendo DS Games on iPhone on iOS 8.4 on borrowed time. Apple doesn’t look too favorably on downloading content separately from its store. In fact, the company actively closes security loops holes with every software update that makes it harder and harder to run emulators. The loop-hole that nds4ios is using wont be open for forever. It may take a two months or six months, but eventually Apple will close it.

I always thought this was a reputable site until I came across step by step instructions on how to pirate software and steal IP. Wow. Are you that desperate for clicks?

Shameful display of linking to a website that requires you to “complete an offer to download”
