How to Set a Custom Alarm in iOS 6

Published

on

If you’re anything like me, many of the alarms in iOS are probably off limits. I’ve used many of them in the past and for some reason, I get extremely annoyed when I hear them. So much so that I can no longer use most of them. The list got so extensive that I was waking up to the sounds of Sonar. Fortunately, with iOS 6, Apple has finally relieved me of this nightmare as I am now able to set a custom alarm using any song I choose.

Yesterday, after hearing Sonar for the past few weeks, I decided to finally use one of the new features found in iOS 6, the ability to set a custom song as an alarm.

For me, this is much more satisfying than listening to the pre-loaded sounds. By using custom alarms, I am not only able to choose a perfect sound to wake up to, but I am also able to endlessly change what I want to hear. Never again will have to choose between listening to an old motorcycle rev up or a xylophone that often reminds me of American Beauty or hating the fact that I have to wake up.

Last night, just for giggles, I decided to set my alarm to Final Countdown by Europe and let me tell you. Waking up to Swedish dudes shredding on the guitar is a much more pleasant experience than waking up thinking I am in a submarine.

So here’s how to do it. It’s extremely simple and it will very likely be useful in preserving your sanity.

First, find the Clock icon on your home screen. It resembles a clock.

Next, tap it and open up a screen that gives you various options. You’ll want to select the Alarm tab.

Here, you’ll want to tap Edit then select your usual alarm or set up a new one.

Once you’re in there, you’ll want to tap the Sound option which will take you to a screen where you’ll be able to choose from a pre-loaded ringtone or pick a song from your library.

Apple even gives you the option of buying other music on the previous page, making it extremely easy to ensure that you never have to deal with the stock ringtones ever again.

This so far is one of my favorite features of iOS 6 and I hope you enjoy it too.

Is it possible to delete one of the songs you selected in the alarm library?
