Have you ever wanted to turn off or change the glowing buttons on your Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge? These are called capacitive touch keys, and are completely customizable. They light up when in use, and often stay on for upwards of 6 seconds after each tap. Read on to learn how to turn off the Galaxy S7 button lights.

On each side of the home key and fingerprint scanner, are two buttons. One is the back and the other is a recent apps menu for navigation and multi-tasking. These can easily be turned off, turned on whenever the screen is on, or we can change the touch key light duration too.

For many these lights can be frustrating when in a dark room or a movie theater, and for others 1.5 seconds isn’t long enough. Our AT&T Galaxy S7 Edge keeps them on for 6 seconds at a time, but I’ve quickly changed it to fit my needs. You can too with the instructions below.

By turning on users are able to navigate their phone easier, especially when its dark. However, not everyone wants to deal with the lights. Luckily Samsung has options to customize them built right into the software. That being said, some carriers have the default “touch key light duration” different than others.

For whatever reason carriers like Verizon choose to remove this feature, or at least they have in the past. We only have an AT&T and T-Mobile Galaxy S7 here, and both have the option in settings. Don’t worry though, if you don’t have the choice in settings there are apps available to change it as well.

Turn Off or Adjust Galaxy S7 Touch Key Lights

For most with a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge this is extremely simple. And can be done as quickly as you’d turn up the screen brightness, or change a ringtone. A quick trip into Settings > Display > Touch Key Light Duration is all that’s needed. Here’s an image for a better idea of what to look for.

Take note, the settings menu may vary slightly by carrier, or if you’ve yet to upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat on the Galaxy Sy Edge.

Easily change the Galaxy S7 touch key lights

Instructions

  • Pulldown the notification bar and hit the gear-shaped “Settings” Button
  • Or Find “Settings” in the application tray
  • Navigate to and select “Display”
  • Scroll down and select “Touch key light duration”
  • Make a selection from the popup of options as shown above

And that’s all, it’s that simple. On most devices users should have the choice between 1.5 seconds, 6 seconds (default choice) or turn it completely off. Additionally, there’s a selection labeled “Always on” that will simply turn the touch key lights on anytime the screen is on. Although this could have an effect on battery life. A middle ground at three seconds would be nice, but isn’t available.

Third Party App for Control

For those that may not have this option in settings, there are some apps that will allow us the same control. You’ll be able to turn them completely off, set them to always stay on, or change the light duration.

As you can see above there are more than enough options for owners with this app. The slider changes the amount of time the lights stay on, or choose from the options. It’s pretty simple. According to the developer this new “version 2” should work with most Galaxy phones or tablets. Although problems may arise after the update to Android 7.0 Nougat.

That’s all owners need to know. Head into settings and change the Galaxy S7 button lights today. Otherwise, download the app mentioned above if the option isn’t available on your device. While you’re here take a look at these other 45 Galaxy S7 Tips and tricks.
