How to Use Personal Hotspot on the HTC One

Published

on

There’s nothing more useful than having mobile internet access when you need it, especially when the internet connection you depend on to get emails and browse the internet simply isn’t working. Enabling personal hotspot on the HTC One is just a simple as a few button presses.

It is worth noting that while every HTC has mobile hotspot functionality, whether it’s enabled depends on the service plan you decided on when you purchased the device. For example, mobile hotspot functionality is available as an add-on to the devices that ships to T-Mobile users, however AT&T users must have chosen a plan that includes the functionality already.

If you’d like to use the feature but don’t have a plan with your carrier that allows you to do so, it’s likely that you can add hotspot functionality at any time through your carrier’s website or support hotline. Here’s how to use personal hotspot on the HTC One.

From the Mobile network sharing menu, HTC One users are able to choose what settings they’d like to enable when using the personal hotspot feature on the HTC One. Options include the ability to share the HTC One’s mobile internet connection using a wireless Bluetooth connection, over a Wi-Fi connection or using a physical connection through the micro USB port on the bottom of the device.

To use wireless tethering over Bluetooth, simply tap the ‘Bluetooth tethering’ option and connect to the device’s Bluetooth on your device’s tablet or smartphone.

To turn on Hotspot sharing, tap the ‘Mobile Hotspot’ option. You’ll then need to connect to the device using the default mobile hotspot settings that your device comes with.

Tap ‘mobile hotspot settings’ to look at or change the ID and password that your device will use to connect with the mobile hotspot internet connection being broadcast from your HTC One. You aren’t required to change these as the default setting will work just fine. But if you should ever need to enter the information on another device, it’ll always be readily available from here.

Connect to your HTC One’s Mobile hotspot using the wireless internet settings on your device. In our example, we’re using Windows 8. Notice the HTC One 86 wireless network that is visible from our wireless internet settings on the right. The way you connect your device will depend on the device itself.

Well, that is if you aren’t on Verizon and still waiting for them to release the HTC One…

Stupid Verizon disables this feature unless you have a Mobile tethering plan…

I pay for the hotspot through SPRINT and it worked fine on my HTC Evo, but now with my new HTC One (purchased in December), I cannot connect to the internet on my PC.
