A new Snapchat update lets you create your own Snapchat Geofilters for a party or your business to add a cool look to your Snapchat photos and videos when you are in a specific location.
This guide will show you how to use Snapchat geofilters to add a special layer on top of your photo or video before you share a Snap. You can even combine these with Snapchat Lenses and other features that can help highlight your creations.
A Snapchat geofilter is only available in a specific area. It could be a very small area or it may be a few blocks. You must be in that area to use the Snapchat geofilter. Right now we don’t know of any way to trick Snapchat into allowing you to use a geofilter from another place.
The Snapchat geofilter tool isn’t new, but the option to make your own for as little as $5 is brand new. You can follow the directions in the Snapchat Design Center to make your own custom geofilter. You choose the design, the location and then you buy it for $5 or more. Keep in mind that it takes a day for Snapchat to review your submission before it can go live.
How to Use a Snapchat Geofilter
It’s very simple to use a Snapchat geofilter to spice up your photo. You can do this on iPhone or Android, and it is free to use a geofilter. If you want to use in addition to a Snapchat Lens, make sure you use that first.
Take a photo or video in Snapchat and you will now be ready to apply a Snapchat geofilter.
You can apply multiple filters to Snapchat photos and videos, but you can only apply one geofilter in our experience.
Swipe from left to right and you will see the available Snapchat geofilters. In our case there are only two available. When you find the one you want to use, you can send the Snap.
If you want to also stack on a filter or other Snapchat options, you can do that by holding down on the screen with one finger and swiping with your other finger. The video below explains how this works.
