HTC Amaze 4G Ice Cream Sandwich Update Rolling Out in ‘Coming Weeks’

Published

on

While T-Mobile was very specific in regards to its plans for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich roll out for the HTC Sensation 4G, it offered a more ambiguous announcement about the Ice Cream Sandwich roll out to the HTC Amaze 4G.

T-Mobile has announced that the HTC Sensation 4G would finally get Android 4.0 this Wednesday, May 16th. It also updated HTC Amaze 4G about their upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich but didn’t reveal a specific date.

Instead, the carrier said that the update will roll out in the coming weeks, refusing to attach a specific date to the software.

HTC Amaze 4G Ice Cream Sandwich Update Coming Soon

Obviously, that’s not the best news for Amaze 4G owners but at least it’s better than silence. Of course, ‘coming weeks’ in carrier speak can mean any number of things.

It could mean that owners will see it in a week or two or it could mean that the software won’t be seen for months. Just look at Verizon’s promise for the Motorola Droid 4 and the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX.

At CES, the carrier told us that Android 4.0 would be coming to both those phones in the coming weeks. That was in February. It’s now May.

Point is, Amaze 4G owners will want to temper their expectations and remain patient.

T-Mobile did however outline the features and improvements that will be coming with the update and those include:

New Features

  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Sense 3.6
  • System bar enhancements to easily view recent apps.
  • Re-sizeable widgets
  • Lock screen actions including pull down notifications and adjust volume while device is locked.
  • Data usage controls.
  • Face Unlock
  • Home screen folders
  • Improved battery life

Improvements

  • Improved text input and spell checking
  • Improved menu structure

T-Mobile originally confirmed the update for the HTC Amaze 4G at the end of March.

If simlar to the HTC Sensation 4G, hope for July-August, expect August-September, don’t be surprized if it is September-October – or later.

I hope the improvement for the Amaze’s battery life pans out, because mine loses a charge really fast unless I disable the heck out of it.
