HTC EVO V 4G Nearly Impossible to Find

Published

on

Yesterday, Virgin Mobile launched the HTC EVO V 4G on its new 4G WiMax network. However, it seems as though the phone has stumbled out of the gates as customers are having a hard time purchasing the phone.

We heard yesterday, directly from Virgin Mobile, that the phone would indeed launch but that it was affected by the patent issues that have delayed the HTC EVO 4G LTE release date on Sprint and the availability of the HTC One X on AT&T.

Virgin Mobile didn’t elaborate but it’s clear that the carrier has run into some supply issues.

We have heard from several customers who ordered the phone directly from Virgin, only to be greeted with a backorder. We’ve also heard from several folks who were unable to pick it up from Radio Shack, a confirmed retailer.

Visits to both Radio Shack and Best Buy websites are telling.

The HTC EVO V 4G has vanished from Radio Shack’s website and Best Buy still lists the phone as being up for pre-order, even though the device launched yesterday.

So it’s pretty clear that there are not enough devices to meet the current demand for this device. Fortunately, HTC’s devices have passed customs which means we should see wider availability of the device in the near future.

Unfortunately, we don’t know when that will occur just yet.

The HTC EVO V 4G runs on Virgin Mobile’s new 4G WiMax network and is the carrier’s version of the HTC EVO 3D. It features a 4.3-inch qHD display, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 5MP camera capable of shooting 720p video and 3D HD imaging, and a 1GHz processor.

It’s a solid device but the big appeal is that it’s available for a mere $299 off-contract and can be paired with Virgin Mobile’s $35 unlimited plan.

Strike 3 for Adam. This is the 3rd article I’ve read from this “author” that contains misinformation about the HTC Evo V. His accuracy is improving, though. For the 3rd time, this phone does not have a 1ghz processor. It has a 1.2ghz •Dual Core• processor.

It does not surprise me that this phone is in high demand, I would like one. If you live in an area with Sprint Wi-Max coverage, this is the best deal out there by far. I am a current Virgin Mobile subscriber and I use the $35 a month plan. I feel that I am saving $50 month compared to other plans and I have no contract. The thing to remember is that Sprint plans to shut down WiMax in 2015 as they are moving to LTE. That gives this phone three years. After that, you can still use 3G, but who keeps a phone for three years these days

I bought the Evo V 4g off of Virgin Mobile’s website the first 5 minutes of it being available, and its still backordered. WHY!? Does Virgin Mobile have any Evos in stock at all?

I just picked mine up at RS, it was a pain trying to find it. I live in Los Angeles and only 1 RS had it in a pretty wide area. The part i find strange is that the phone says sprint on the front and doesn’t say virgin anywhere on the phone. I believe the lady said they only got 3 in, must be a shortage. Well good luck to anyone out there hunting them down.

This phone isn’t even supposed to be at retail until June 10. A simpe visit to the VirginMobileUSA site would confirm that.

The author needs to learn how to do research. I simple visit to the VM site will answer his headline question. The EVO was never supposed to be available in retail stores until June 10th…says so right on the site, and has for 2 weeks. Poor journalism!
