HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat Update Rumored

Published

on

HTC and Google aren’t ready to talk about Android 4.4 KitKat updates just yet but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t hearing whispers from unofficial sources. Those rumors have pointed to a number of possible scenarios and today, they have presented two more as the HTC One and HTC One Google Edition are both rumored to be getting Android 4.4 KitKat.

In early September, Google announced that it would be delivering an Android 4.4 KitKat update to Android users sometime in the future. The company was unsurprisingly light on details as it typically reveals new Android updates alongside new Nexus hardware. The Nexus 5 from LG is heavily rumored for arrival in October and Android 4.4 KitKat rumors have also pointed to a launch inside this month though a specific date still isn’t known.

Android 4.4 KitKat is expected to touchdown with a new Nexus 5.

Android 4.4 KitKat is expected to touchdown with a new Nexus 5.

At the launch event, Google is expected to announce the Nexus 5, Nexus 10, and the Android 4.4 KitKat update at the very least, at which point it will detail their features and release dates. What Google likely won’t announce is which devices, beyond its Nexus lineup, will be getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update down the road, something it often leaves up to manufacturers to announce.

We’ve heard several Android 4.4 KitKat update rumors in recent days with whispers suggesting updates for both the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 and Pantech confirming an update for the Vega Iron smartphone. We’ve also seen rumors suggest that the HTC One X and HTC One X+ will not be getting Android 4.4 KitKat updates. The same source that provided that information about the HTC One X and HTC One X+ updates is back with some more inside info for HTC owners, info that should have the owners of two devices excited.

According to LlabTooFeR, a noted HTC insider, the HTC One will be getting Android 4.4 KitKat at some point in the future. He also says that the HTC One Google Play Edition will be getting the update at some point in the near future though he doesn’t offer a specific date, something that may not have emerged just yet. While the Google Play version of the HTC One isn’t considered a Nexus, the device was among the first to get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

HTC has been working hard to deliver extremely quick updates to its users and it could be that both of these devices get the update relatively soon after Google’s announcement later on this year.

Google releases a software like 4.4 and it’s released to stock android phones (nexus phones) and once that happens, the phone companies like Samsung and HTC have to make their version of it to work with their UI (HTC sense, touchwiz) then the phone carriers (sprint, AT&T etc.) have to approve of it. then it’s released. There’s a process for android. It’s not HTC’s fault.
