HTC One M9 Leaks Could Disappoint Buyers

With the HTC One M9 release date quickly approaching and the official launch date set for March 1st, the leaks and rumors keep flowing in. And while most of the rumors have slowed down over the past few weeks, this weekend a huge leak emerged showing us what could be the real HTC One M9, and it may disappoint prospective buyers.

The brand new HTC One M9 has been surfacing more and more over the past few weeks, and now it’s no secret that the company plans to announce its new smartphone on March 1st at the annual Mobile World Congress show. We saw a lot of photos earlier this month, but a rumor suggested all the HTC One M9 leaks we’ve seen thus far have been fakes in an attempt to hide the final product.

Then, last month a new photo emerged showing what could be the true and final design of HTC’s next flagship phone, or two. But today’s leak brings us back to square one, leaving many wondering what HTC has planned. As we all know, March 1st is the date in which HTC will take the stage and formally announce and reveal the new HTC One M9. Read on for the latest details and some new photos that may leave many buyers disappointed.

We’ve seen countless leaks already, which may be fake, and after more photos and concept images emerged, the name was somewhat confirmed, however the past two days we’ve received another entire set of photos and details that have many confused as to what’s going on.

In 2014 the HTC One M8 leaked countless times before being announced and released, and we knew exactly what to expect once it was confirmed. We saw pictures, videos and more of the device, but this year HTC has done a better job keeping things a secret. Initially some photos leaked showing a device nearly exactly the same as last years, and then another rumor suggested those were all fakes from HTC in order to hide the final design.

Then, @Evleaks posted a photo of what could be the all-new HTC One M9. Talked about an edge-to-edge glass front, redesigned speakers on the edges with smaller bezels, and a much sleeker looking smartphone. This leak showed a brand new smartphone much different from the HTC One M8, something many owners could get excited about. However, this weekend a German online retailer posted a full gallery of eight images of the “New HTC One M9” along with all its specs. All the information lines up with recent leaks, but the device looks nearly exactly like last years. Which sadly, looks extremely similar to the model in 2013. Meaning we might have another device that looks almost exactly the same as the previous year. Only with better internals and a better, bigger, square 20 megapixel camera.

According to the German Electronics store Cyberport, the device shown above is the new HTC One M9. And yes, it looks almost exactly the same as last years model. The colors are slightly different with a nice silver and gold color combo, but the device is almost identical but with a slightly changed rear for the new camera.

Their listing was immediately removed after being posted online, which could be a sign that it was indeed real. According to it all the rumors we’ve heard are accurate. Those being that the new HTC One M9 will have a 5-inch 1080p HD display, an 8-core processor with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a micro-SD slot for expansion, a 20 megapixel rear and 4 Ultrapixel front camera, and more.

According to their information it will indeed be running Android 5.0 Lollipop with a new Sense UI 7.0 interface, a bigger 2,900 mAh battery, and look nearly the exact same as last years model.

For now we’re still going to take all of this with a grain of salt, but these are some rather official looking photos of HTC’s next smartphone. These too, could be sent out to retailers in an attempt to hide the newly designed smartphone, but things aren’t looking good for HTC. We could have a slightly improved device that looks the same as last year, or a completely different design that’s worth buying. We’ll have to wait a few more days to see. It will be announced on March 1st.
