It appears that HTC is going to be following Samsung’s lead and releasing a smaller, less-powerful version of its HTC One flagship, presumably called HTC One Mini but known currently as the HTC M4, which has emerged today as a competitor to Samsung’s upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

Earlier this year, Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy S4, its new flagship device that recently appeared on shelves across the globe, including in the United States. Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S4 that is on shelves won’t be the only Galaxy S4 device hitting shelves in the coming weeks either as it has confirmed not only a rugged version of its flagship but also a miniature version that is currently dubbed the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

The HTC M4 is rumored to be a Samsung Galaxy S4 competitor.

The device will replace the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini as Samsung’s smaller, less powerful version of its flagship device. The Galaxy S4 Mini is rumored to be arriving in July though it now looks like it may have some company.

HTC, which also just released its flagship smartphone, appears to be taking a page right out of Samsung’s book with a smaller, less powerful version of its new HTC One.

An image, unearthed by PhoneArena, depicts a device that is being called the HTC M4 and looks like a smaller version of HTC’s M7, which went on to be branded as the HTC One.

The image shows a device with what appear to be identical build materials and overall design though the overall specs are rumored to be far less powerful than the ones on the HTC One.

Specs are thought to include a smaller 4.3-inch 720p display, dual-core processor, 16GB of storage, 1700 mAh battery and the same Ultrapixel camera found on the HTC One.

If true, it would certainly be on par, if not better than the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini which is rumored to have a 4.3 qHD display, 8MP camera, dual-core or quad-core processor and a design that closely resembles the Galaxy S4.

The notorious @evleaks account says that the HTC M4 is, at the very least, heading to AT&T’s network which means that those in the U.S. looking for a cheaper alternative to the higher end phones may have one down the line.

A release is rumored for the end of the second quarter which means that it could very well start shipping in June, ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

No carriers have been named for the Galaxy S4 Mini.
