HTC One Sense 6 Update Continues as Android 4.4.3 Arrives

Published

on

The original HTC One released last year was recently updated to the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but the smartphone isn’t running the same software as its successor, the new HTC One M8 released back in March.

The new HTC One M8 runs a refined and brand new software experience called HTC Sense 6.0 with tons of new features. HTC promised updates would arrive in a quick and timely fashion to older devices with this same interface, and today AT&T HTC One owners have started to see the software update.

AT&T HTC One (M7) owners have started to receive a software upgrade this morning which is delivering the new and improved HTC Sense 6 software found from the M8. This is one of the last updates, as those on Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile have all seen this arrive over the past few weeks.

According to multiple sources over at the AndroidForums the update is rolling out as of late last night, and those on AT&T should be able to check and see if the latest and greatest is ready. However, you may have heard of another Android update that arrived last night, which is Android 4.4.3 KitKat.

Yesterday Google released its latest software and bug fixing update to the Android platform by releasing Android 4.4.3 KitKat. Currently most HTC One M7 owners recently were updated to Android 4.4.2 KitKat last month, one which delivered the latest version of Android and tons of fixes, so don’t expect this update to be Android 4.4.3 KitKat.

HTC One M8 Tips - 1

While Android 4.4.3 KitKat is currently rolling out to owners of Nexus smartphones and tablets, a few Google Play Edition handsets, and the Moto X, don’t expect the HTC One or One M8 to get this anytime soon. In fact, it’ll probably be another month or two before we start to see Android 4.4.3 KitKat for the HTC One.

That said, the software update to HTC Sense rolling out today to AT&T owners is chalked full of new features and has a stunning new design. Original HTC One owners will enjoy a more flat and refined user interface, tons of motion controls that we really enjoyed in our HTC One M8 Review, improved power management controls, and one of our favorite featured, the newly improved HTC Blinkfeed news aggregator.

Canada and users throughout Europe were first to enjoy the brand new HTC Sense 6.0 experience on the original HTC One back in early May, and over the past month or so the update has slowly arrived on all major carriers here in the United States.

Those on AT&T can expect the Sense 6.0 update to arrive starting today, and roll out all week long. Of course, users can also head into settings > about phone and check for software updates themselves if they’d like. We mention Android 4.4.3 above because while it’s rolling out now to many smartphones, those with the HTC One shouldn’t expect it for another few months.

Don’t be surprised when this software update arriving now is only Sense 6, but at the same time it offers plenty of new features and will be worth the update for most. HTC has been excellent in the past with communication regarding updates and as soon as we learn more details about a possible Android 4.4.3 KitKat update, we’ll be sure to pass along any and all details.

I just did the update on my HTC One M8 and two things I noticed off bat is that I cannot hold down the power button to turn off the phone. The screen gets darker but that is it, it will not power down. Also the volume rocker does not show you the volume status. You will just see the vibration indication at the top to let you know you have gone into vibrate mode. I guess you will have to estimate from there if you want to increase the volume. Oh one other thing….I noticed a lot of the screens would have these lines either on the bottom or top or even some of the status icons. I would have to press the power button once and then again to get them to go away. Those are just the things I have noticed thus far. At this rate (since I just installed update) I am sure I will find many more. Wish I could go back to earlier version :(
