HTC One vs. Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone 5 Video Comparison

Published

on

The HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5 all boast impressive cameras, but when you look at the results side-by-side a clear winner begins to emerge.

In a series of videos below we get a look at the video and audio recording abilities of the HTC One compared to the Samsung Galaxy S4. And in a separate video we can see the Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. the iPhone 5.

The series of videos come from Eldar Murtazin, of Mobile-Review, and even though the Samsung Galaxy S4 is not available to the general public it’s clear that Murtazin was able to get his hands on one for some great side-by-side comparison videos.

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone 5, just missing the HTC One.

In the two videos we can see how the Samsung Galaxy S4 compares to the toughest competition and get a look at video samples from the Samsung Galaxy S4’s 13MP camera.

The video places the samples side by side, showing about the same setting on screen. Halfway through the audio switches from the Galaxy S4 to the iPhone 5 or the HTC One, allowing users to gauge the effectiveness of the microphones.

HTC One vs. Samsung Galaxy S4 Video

The video below compares the HTC One Ultrapixel camera to the Samsung Galaxy S4’s 13MP rear facing camera. The video is about a minute and a half with audio switching from the Galaxy S4 to the dual membrane speaker of the HTC One at 48 seconds into the film. Unfortunately there is not enough going on to really test HTC’s claims of better performance in a concert setting.

We recommend watching at 1080P to see the biggest differences.

The Samsung Galaxy S45 delivers a brighter overall video, with more vivid reds, yellows and blues, while the HTC One video sample shows toned down colors. The bricks and the faces of passers by in the video are good places to look, to see the difference between the two cameras.

At about 19 seconds in, the Samsung Galaxy S4 delivers a clearer overall look at a storefront, but the HTC One is able to deliver a more detailed look at the lights and a better look at the interior of the building. As the cameras pan around, the Galaxy S4 adjusts to changes in light faster, where the HTC One is washed out for a few seconds.

At 43 seconds in, right before the audio switches we get another look at a head on comparison with a mannequin and a sign that look better on the Samsung Galaxy S4.

There is a noticeable difference when the audio switches, with the music clearly bumping down in the background. It’s hard to pick a real winner in the audio department without the ability to toggle between both audio tracks.

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone 5 Video

The second video is a Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone 5 video, showing the recording capabilities of each device. The scene is similar, if not identical to the HTC One vs Galaxy S4 video above. The sound also switches over from the Galaxy S4 to the iPhone 5 about halfway through.

In this video, the iPhone 5 delivers brighter colors than the HTC One did, but the Samsung Galaxy S4 video is still a little more vibrant. The iPhone 5 offers better looking footage of the shopfront, with clear lights and a easier to read signage.

As the scene moves down the street we get a better look at colors and details. The Galaxy S4 still delivers brighter colors and more facial detail on the mannequin. Though moments later the iPhone is able to deliver a sharper look at the street sign of Starbucks.

Again, the audio drops down when switched away from the Galaxy S4.

HTC One vs. Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone 5

The HTC One arrives on store shelves on March 29th in the first set of countries and should launch in other regions soon after, though a shortage of camera components and possibly aluminium is holding up the global launch. The HTC One features an all metal design that the company hopes will set the device apart from the Galaxy S4. HTC includes an IR port to control your HDTV.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 release date is set for April in a number of countries and should hit the U.S. in May or June. The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a plastic design and includes a number of sensors that enable special software features like a touch free display, eye tracking to keep the screen on and to assist with scrolling and there’s even an IR port to control your HDTV.

The iPhone 5 is available today on a variety of carriers. The iPhone 5 comes with iOS 6 and includes an aluminum and glass design and access to a large number of accessories. There is no IR port, but there is a $50 gadget that can turn the iPhone into a remote control.

We expect that the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 will retail for $199 on carriers with a two-year contract  though no official pricing has been announced.

Based on…? The iPhone was the Hyundai in that comparison because the other two phones are superior in every way. Oh, except build quality. You iHoles love your build quality! But why so touchy?

By the way, it’s “moron”. Kind of amusing, given the context, don’t you think?

        Have a great day!

Wrong. I own the iphone 5 and an unlocked galaxy note 2… there’s no comparison. Even though the note 2 has a lower res screen, the only time you EVER notice it is when scrolling though full web pages. Double tap to zoom in or even better use ‘reader’ (same as reader in safari) and you’re golden. Iphone is dead.

I can’t stand how people still compare things to the iphone. You nailed it with this.

Mmm galaxy s4 and htc… And u say its like a Maserati and a Lamborghini? Cause we all know how Maserati and Lamborghini love to make their cars big and out of cheap plastic right? Else Hyundai is Korean like the galaxy correct? Btw there is no such thing as a 2013 Lamborghini diablo try aventador u really know ur cars like u know ur phones….

I will be the first to admit that I know virtually nothing about cars (I was using this as an example because it is an easy concept for most people to understand), and stand corrected on the models. I do know, however, that Lamborghini and Maserati are very high end cars, which makes the model, inaccuracies aside, irrelevant to the point I was making, which incidentally was *not* that certain phones are superior because of what they are made out of, they are superior because of what they can do. With that said, the iPhone is overrated, overpriced, and on the edge of obsolete, and would not be able to give competition to the other two if it were made of diamond.

I do wonder if the fingers on screen on the HTC effected the sensors, but overall the S4 definitely wins, thanks for confirming my choice of S4 for the next phone. If you’re like me and can’t afford it straight away you should follow WishPlz ( https://bit.ly/XRexQQ ) for notifications of price drop.

Um…..hello…the “HTC One” and “Iphone 5” videos are the EXACT same video (go to any point in either videos, and you’ll see the exact same frame). This “test” doesn’t prove anything. In reality, we don’t know WHAT device was used to record ANY of those videos.

@Seattleite206 go to 0:23 and check out the color of the phone box… HTC one shows a big light glare. i don’t see why the creators of the video would be dishonest about the devices, you just seem anxiously delusional

@emili and u seem to be delusional period. unless the creator of the video is holding all three phones at the exact same time, i stand by my original post. its not hard to change the hues and contrasts on a video and say it came from another device.

the tip of the finger captured by the htc one camera somehow affects how the it performed in the video.

    03/22/2013 at 5:36 am

    1. his finger was confusing the auto focus of the htc one screwing the whole video up.
    2. i find it highly unlikely that they already have a Gs4.

    worthless video >.>

the person taking the video is obviously biased against htc one. why would he inlude his finger in that video? that finger greatly affects the auto focus function of the htc one camera. you cut have cut the fingers first before taking the video. LOL
