Leak Hints HTC One Won’t Skip Android 4.2 for Android 4.3 in U.S.

While Samsung may have cancelled the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2 update in favor of Android 4.3, owners of the U.S. version of the HTC One shouldn’t expect the same to happen as it appears that there are no plans to skip the Android 4.2.2 update for the greener pastures of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

With Android 4.3 Jelly Bean likely on the way, and the HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update still non-existent in the United States, consumers are likely wondering whether American carriers and HTC will simply skip Android 4.2 in favor of Android 4.3. After all, Android 4.3 is rumored to be replacing Android 4.2 next week.

Fueling the fire is news that Samsung is apparently going to be ditching the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2 update for an upgrade to the new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update.

HTC and its respective HTC One carriers in the U.S. including AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile likely won’t talk about upgrades for the HTC One but unofficial information from a reliable leakster suggests that there are currently no plans to skip Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for the newer Android 4.3.

@LLabTooFeR is a notorious HTC leakster and his information about software updates, in the past, has been extremely accurate. So when he says that there is no truth to whispers about U.S. HTC One carriers skipping Android 4.2 for Android 4.3, consumers need to listen. This doesn’t exactly seal the fate of the HTC One but it means that there is a very good chance that we won’t see Android 4.3 arrive before Android 4.2, even if the update is incremental.

This, of course, should not be surprising to anyone. Carriers have likely had Android 4.2.2 in development for quite some time and it would be shocking to see the companies kill that progress in favor of a small update like Android 4.3.

In the case of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, we heard that the company had been having issues with Android 4.2, issues that apparently kept pushing back the software’s release date. So, it wasn’t surprising to hear that the company was exploring alternatives.

With the HTC One Android 4.2 update out in several regions around the world, it should only be a matter of time before it hits the United States and when it does, it should bring not only new features, but improvements to both HTC Zoe and HTC BlinkFeed, staples of the new HTC Sense 5.

We probably won’t even get the upgrade to 4.2.2. HTC is extremely slow. And if Android is made in the US, why are we last with the updates? I’m definitely going back to the iPhone (JUST KIDDING!!!), but back to Samsung Galaxy X? next year.

I contacted HTC directly yesterday after I downloaded a 2.45mg update thinking it was 4.2.2….here is their response:
“The update you are mentioning is a 245.6MB update that was developed to enable some bands on the device in order to increase the device signal strength. However, the update did not include the upgrade to Jelly Bean 4.2.2. We sincerely work hard always on the updates for our customers, since we understand it is important for all of you to have the latest Android OS Versions. ”
They were actually very prompt and helpful with their reply.
We should be getting 4.2.2 shortly here in the US.
